There should be many providers offering an email to fax service ........  maybe even your ISP?

Search in synaptic for FAX

you should find :

efax
A program for faxing using a Class 1, 2 or 2.0 fax modem
Efax is a small ANSI C/POSIX program that sends and receives faxes using
any Class 1, 2 or 2.0 fax modem.

You need to install efax if you want to send faxes and you have a
Class 1, 2 or 2.0 fax modem.

FaxMail
A program to send faxes for free via email and the TPC systeP
This package contains FaxMail, a utility to assist in preparing and
sending faxes via the internet's Email-Fax gateway.  It does this
via the TPC.INT service.  See http://www.tpc.int/ for details.

hylaFax
HylaFAX(tm) is a sophisticated enterprise strength fax packaP
HylaFAX(tm) is a sophisticated enterprise-strength fax package for
class 1 and 2 fax modems on unix systems. It provides spooling
services and numerous supporting fax management tools.
The fax clients may reside on machines different from the server
and client implementations exist for a number of platforms including
windows.

You need this package if you are going to install hylafax-client
and/or hylafax server.

Most users want mgetty-voice to be installed too.

Here is a good read for doing fax over ip :   http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/126366.html

Actually, I think that if your computer has a 56k modem installed it will work for fax.

I remember that several years back I installed a program ( Windows 98 ) that had fax capabilities
and my computer had a 56k modem and I was able to send and receive faxes
