[SOLVED] Openshot help files don't open
« on: September 22, 2010, 09:13:58 AM »
When I open up openshot and click on help and contents I get an error message that says "Unable to open the Help Contents. Please ensure the openshot-doc package is installed." I have it installed and have reinstalled it. If this problem is not unique to me it may be a dependency issue but I am just guessing.

You might need to install some gnome dependencies like yelp for help files to show up.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

openshot-doc-1.1.3-5pclos2010

Coffeetime, Since you have openshot open, can you please check and see if you have transitions such as dissolve, blinds in to out etc...in the Transitions tab?

I did look at the dependency list and I can't remember is yelp was or was not installed but if it wasn't I did install it and yelp-xsl also. I updated through today just now and still have the same error. I also tried it on my laptop after updating and it has the error. I do uninstall some of the default software so I will assume the problem is in something I took off. Now that I know the problem is with me I will start adding back software I removed and if I find the problem I will report back. Thanks guys for the help.

I also have the same problem as moniac, I have the doc files installed with their dependencies, including Yelp, but still no help files. moniac if you find a fix, please post it and I will try it also.

I went to a computer that I have not removed any default installed software did an update and then installed openshot and the openshot doc packages yelp also is installed. I still have the problem so it is not anything I have removed. I am searching the net looking for clues. I have went through the list of dependencies for openshot the doc file and yelp and they are all there. I wonder if coffeetime has installed some gnome stuff that enabled his help files to work. If I find anything I will be sure to post it. If you come up with anything please post it here also.

Hello moniac: I just booted into my number 2 hard drive on this machine where I have a PCLOS 2010 Gnome version installed. I installed OpenShot there and this is what it wanted to upgrade along with installing OpenShot and OpenShot docs, to be upgraded: freiOr-plugins, mlt, mlt-python, and python-pygoocanvas. After agreeing to all this , OpenShot was installed and the help files work on my Gnome install. I will try later on the KDE install and see if these programs are installed and upgraded, and will post back.

I have all these packages installed and it is a no go for me.

It is looking like it is a missing gnome package to me. I wonder is coffeetime is using kde and has installed some gnome stuff. Maybe he will see this and comment on it.

I'm using KDE. I don't know where's the problem, but here's my list of dependencies:

Quote
openshot

x264
ffmpeg
pyxdg
pygtk2.0
pygtk2.0-libglade
python-pygoocanvas
libmlt2 (>=0.4.10)
mlt (>=0.4.10)
mlt-python (>=0.4.10)
frei0r-plugins
sox
librsvg2_2
/bin/sh
/bin/sh
python-base

openshot-doc:
openshot (=1.1.3-5pclos2010)
yelp

Edit: Package suggest --> OpenShot 1.2.2

I can get on the command line and run "yelp /usr/share/gnome/help/openshot/C/openshot.xml and it will open the manual. Maybe this will be a clue to someone.

OpenShot Help Manual

Yesterday I downloaded the manual with httrack so I can have it locally. The desire is to fix the problem but thanks for the link.
