If you are using KDE just turn on the master volume controls on the mixer.  It doesn't work
well with xfce, I think it's incompatible somewhere.   Very nice in KDE though.

I only have the option to turn up

Internal Audio Analog Stereo

There is no "Master Channel"

Well if you have the mixer configured it will work very well on KDE.  There's
sound configuration in the Control Center and the mixer in the Program menu
under sound.  Somewhere the computer has the configuration selections off.

Reset everything and start it right up.

Where would I go to reset the mixer. I once had many channels to choose from in the mixer window but a few weeks ago they all disappeared and the channel labeled " Internal Audio Analog Stereo " showed up. I can't add any other channels in the mixer window.

Is there a way to "reset" kmix?

Konsole, go su:
alsaconf

Follow the wizard. You could also try-Konsole-alsamixer[use Tab]:

To reset:

PCC/Hardware/Sound Configuration/Advanced/Reset sound mixer to default

Is Bangarang the only one which is causing troubles?
PCLinuxOS e17 Club member/e17 video/Wifi problems?

My KDE is broke so... but in Kmix there is a master control that has to be set on.
Plus headphones and speakers, and set them twice, double confirm the settings
with the OK button.

My other players are also giving me trouble. VLC, KMplayer, SMplayer, and Bangarang.
I used VLC and KMPlayer originally then the sound problem occured so I tried Bangarang. I like Bangarang so I really want it to work.

It took a couple tries but now I have all the different channels in kmix again.
Made sure everything was on, mp3s work now but mp4s do not play sound. I get the video but no sound.

This happens to mp4 and flv files.

Probably need to add a video sound channel in KMix then.  This is all in Bangarang, right ?
If you can get KMix to do audio/audio you should be able to get video/audio from
Bangarang.

How does Bangarang sound ?

Bangarang sounds great when playing the mp3 files. The video is smooth when playing the mp4 files. There is no sound in the mp4 files after turning on all channels in KMix.

I can't picture where that control might be...Control Center, KMix, or Bangarang
itself.  Never played a video thru it, was a better sounding audio player though.
I'd guess in the Bang video configs.

Good Luck,

Besides sound issue in bangrang while playing .mp4,nepomuk is unable to find anything here.
It is oK that Texstar does not want our desktops to crowl because of nepomuk.
Is there any point in running bangarang then?
It seems I shall have to remove bangarang along with the 4 dependencies and also disable nepomuk.

I had to go in and configure everything about nepomunk myself. Works like a charm. Oh and turns out Bangarang plays avi files with sound  :-\
