Use Synaptic, the GUI front end for apt. Start Synaptic, click the Reload button in the left-hand corner. Wait for updates to be registered. Then click Mark All Upgrades button. If there are upgrades available, the Apply button will now be un-ghosted. If the Apply button is now available, press the Apply button and wait for the packages to be downloaded and installed.
Always do an upgrade before installing any new packages. After you have done this procedure, click on the Search button. In the text field, enter apache. You will see apache-base package listed. Click it and select Mark for Installation. All required dependencies will appear in the next box. Click Mark. You will also want to select the apache-mod_php package for installation. Look through the list of apache-mod packages to see if there any others you want to install. After making your selections, click the Apply button. Then wait for all packages to download and install.
To configure your ftp or web server, open Configure Your Computer, (PCLinuxOS Control Center), and select Sharing in the left panel. Configure FTP and Configure web server are the two tasks listed in the right panel.
