vlc won't start
« on: September 19, 2010, 08:12:36 AM »
Ive tried to launch vlc from menu and terminal output is:

$ vlc
VLC media player 1.1.4 The Luggage (revision exported)
Blocked: call to unsetenv("DBUS_ACTIVATION_ADDRESS")
Blocked: call to unsetenv("DBUS_ACTIVATION_BUS_TYPE")
[0x966d49c] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
Remote control interface initialized. Type `help' for help.

any ideas, probably something simple, I've not had this problem before

thanks yim

Did you change the default interface? Delete your vlc folder:
Dolphin
/home/yourname/.config/
and delete vlc folder

PCLinuxOS Phoenix Edition.....Still not right...

What a joke.  VLC does work in Phoenix.  I installed task multimedia on a fresh install along with VLC and it works just fine.

Ok, vlc has been updated and now has explict dependencies so it will open on XFCE. Still recommended task-multimedia for the complete experience.

Thx Tex.  I just found that today searching for solutions to the two posts about it while I was at work.  FIrst thing I always do to a new install is task-multimedia and VLC.  I had no clue it wasn't working, but of course, it does work, so of course I had no clue.
