No prelink included in e17-light, don't know about e17-heavy (the one with qt apps)
No problems in e17 after enabling prelink.

Gnome is already prelinked, i beieve zen is too.
Thats why you don't see improvements

Well just curious why you posted this then:

How to enable prelink on other DE's?
Specifically gnome?

I also read that some put prelink to cron job? Should we do that?

 ???

I asked that before i started working on gnome, and also wasn't sure if there is something else needed to be done, some equivalent to KDE_is_preklinked
Sorry i didn't mentioned it before :|

Prelink worked fine, speeding up KDE considerable UNTIL I tried to change to another WIFI network using DrakConf. X was abrubtly terminated and the computer froze, not even responding to the raising of silly elephants anymore!

I had to boot into another install on a separate partition to repair the errors in my PCLOS2010 partition twice in a row as the automatic e2fschk found errors it couldn't take care of.

I was able to replicate this behaviour on subsequent boots until I hashed out the added prelink line in startkde. Now all is back to normal. Probably some draktool lib that doesn't want to play ball.

Nevertheless, i believe the prelink cmd should be executed for the new apps you install?

Correct me if i'm wrong please :)

There's no need to run it after installing new apps. If you do what Tex said your files will be prelinked regularly.

Well I think that's the question Slax and I were asking that never got answered:

Code: [Select]
3. While still in terminal edit /usr/bin/startkde with your favorite text editor. Add the line highlighted in bold to startkde.

export KDE_NO_IPV6=True
export KDE_USE_IPV6="no"
export KDE_IS_PRELINKED=1

Not gonna do me much good in Gnome as I don't have a /usr/bin/startkde file.  ;)

You just install prelink and then run the command it tells you to run when it gets installed from Synaptic. Easy. :)

Okay, did that when I installed it, so no need for any lines to be added elsewhere to prelink new apps when they are installed? There was no mention of said extra lines from synaptic, so I don't have to add a line to a start folder anywhere like you do in KDE?

I recently gave prelink a try on 2011/KDE  and followed texstar's short tut to the letter , upon reboot i got around 4  K crash notifications , Knotify & Kdeamon (or similar). I tried 2 or 3 times with same results , so i removed prelink from the system and everything is running fine once again , no crash & burn .
Im not looking for support on this matter , just thought id share and maybe find out where i went wrong , for future reference.

Can't duplicate - I just run it in 2 Virtualbox VMs running KDE 2011 and after reboots no error messages occurred.

Looking at the output in KWrite it lists approx 900 lines (files) which were prelinked (and some which couldn't be)

The command took about 2 minutes to run
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver
