I did find a bug with prelink and dropbox. I had to re-install dropbox from synaptic then edit /etc/prelink.conf and blacklist the -b /usr/lib/dropbox-dist folder.

Tried putting things in dropbox shortly after running prelink and nothing would upload from the local box to dropbox online. Did a reinstall of dropbox and it now works again. Thanks for the tip. I've now edited my own /etc/prelink.conf to prevent another occurrence of said problem.

I also had to reinstall when after the reboot it did not start. From the cli it complained about library.zip missing. I checked the directory and it was there. Link-path problem.

I wonder how many other borks are lurking out there.

Mozilla has been working on startup time improvements for Firefox 4 and Moz. developer Taras has a blog detailing it.
He has mentioned prelink on numerous posts, and actually posts numbers for the startup time improvements afforded by prelink.
Apparently, prelink alone saves 170ms (that's about 1/5 of a second or 8.5%) of firefox startup time.
Linux: How to Make Startup Suck Less

Nice that we have prelink now.
I always wanted to try it out. ;D

Have run it - will reboot and advise on any change........

Ok I was worried for 2 mins there... I reloaded synaptic just now and sure enough there was prelink upgrade... I said to myself ahh this must be the dropbox breaker. Texstar and Old-Polack have pass access. I don't. This way they have installed the newest vesions of software and one of them borked stuff... Anyway I upgraded and ran /usr/sbin/prelink -avmR in su root console. Rebooted expecting dropbox in the tray not to show up... And it did. I created another txt file in the dropbox folder thinking it won't be uploaded... And it was uploaded instantly...

[andrzejl@WISHMACER ~]$ rpm -qa prelink
prelink-0.4.3-0.2pclos2010
[andrzejl@WISHMACER ~]$ rpm -qa dropbox
dropbox-0.7.110-1pclos2010
[andrzejl@WISHMACER ~]$

I don't know whats going on guys but this bug left me alone for some reason.

Code: [Select]
[slax@localhost ~]$ dropbox
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<string>", line 5, in <module>
zipimport.ZipImportError: not a Zip file: '/usr/lib/dropbox-dist/library.zip'

How to enable prelink on other DE's?
Specifically gnome?

I also read that some put prelink to cron job? Should we do that?
