The problem with this is that when one clears one's public folder, the link will be useless and the image will vanish from the post. Better to use a service to host the image permanently. Wink

Thanks O-P. I won't bother with Dropbox then. Genomega implied in this thread that Dropbox could be used as a substitute for what we previously enjoyed in Additional Options.

Yes, I know menotu, I use imageshack and tinypic but before the spam attack we were able to upload images directly from the HD via the Forum's Additional Options which is now not available, although I thought it was going to be reinstated

Yeah - it was a very useful function, it's a shame it's still not available.  :(

Oh well, good things don't last... :(

Until we know exactly what attack vector was used to bring down the forum, that function will remain unavailable. If it's proven that the attack vector was, in fact, through an uploaded malicious image file, that function may never return.

Remember, even when that function was available, the directory on the server holding those uploaded images had to be regularly emptied, and all post images were then lost. If the post contained things like "Look at the center of the attached image to see the problem," or "Look at the attached image to see the solution," the entire point of archiving that forum post is lost, as it becomes meaningless.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

Lest we forget...
