Unable to boot[Solved]
« on: September 17, 2010, 03:39:32 PM »
After changing some settings in pcc graphical server,I can no longer boot up.
I see the boot screen followed by 'unsupported input' and It doesn't take me to any login screen.
How can I revert to the original settings?

Hi,

Unfortunately, only you knows what settings you did in PCC graphical server. Can you remember what you did, or did you happen to take notes somewhere ? On a piece of paper, or on a school boot ?

You could get in with a chroot from a live install, and from there start drakx11 in ncurses mode, then switch back to how it was before, if you know what you did and how it was.

Hi Melodie

I know how to change the setting back to what I need using XFdrake but what I cant do is get a login screen to be able to do this.
I do have a live cd but I don't understand how to change the settings using it??Could you elaborate please?

Hi Sleepy,
Then I will try to make it easier for you. Start as usual except that at Grub menu, on the kernel command line add "init 3" at the end of the line (this will avoid to try to start kdm or gdm and make things easier for what follows), then you should end with a virtual console : a tty. There if you can see an invite to login, on a black screen, to login as root. : user root, hit enter, then type your root password, then hit enter.

Then type there: drakx11. If "task-X11" is not installed, it will ask you permission to install it. Proceed. Then you will get a blue ncurse interface to switch back : navigation is with arrows, and change option with space bar. (Hit space bar, seen how it reacts, hit up and down arrow, and fast you get to see how it goes).

Then you should be ok.

Don't do the test. Just validate your choices and try to restart.

This is now solved.

I booted from a remastered disc and replaced /etc/x11/xorg.conf file.

*Edit
Thank you Melodie, just seen your detailed instructions.
