dial up app for LXDE
« on: September 15, 2010, 10:59:15 AM »
Hi all.  I need a dial up app for friend's laptop which I'm setting up.  Used to use kppp myself but trying to avoid kde apps.

Thanks

Try wvdial --
Quote
WvDial automatically locates and configures modems and can log into
almost any ISP's server without special configuration. You need to
input the username, password, and phone number, and then WvDial will
negotiate the PPP connection using any mechanism needed.
Install wvdial if you need a utility to configure your modem and set
up a PPP connection.

Thanks - tried it years ago and found it difficult back then, but I guess things have improved :-)

WvDial working fine here. You will need to create "/etc/wvdial.conf" first, then edit it to conform to your system configuration and ISP. Very easy to use, very reliable. Full instructions available online from many sources. Just Google.
