Can I upgrade LXDE 2009.4 ??
« on: September 14, 2010, 03:22:59 PM »
I installed LXDE 2009.4 on my old IBM X20 (celeron 500....394mb RAM) about a year ago. After installing it, I marked all upgrades, but I haven't touched it since.

Is it safe to mark all upgrades now? Or would I need to download the newest version. This thing really works great with LXDE, and I would hate to have to start over. But, I would also hate to break it by updating it.

You need to be connected to the frozen repo to upgrade that version, and you are limited to upgrading only to the time it was frozen, November 2009.

Thanks for the fast reply. That's what I was afraid of.

If i wanted to add apps, would I also have to use the frozen repo?

I apologize if these are stupid questions.

That's the only repo of it's type left for that version. Do a full upgrade of what's already installed, then add what you want. From then on it's just like any other static release distro. You can add or remove apps at will, but only from that one repo.

How do I add that repo to synaptic? I tried adding it, but I received an error.

Hi,

Why not install a newer version ?

We don't have the wiki online actually, but a good doc, very complete can be found here, with screenshots and lots of details.

Try the latest version. You'll like it. Nothing to fear, but fear itself.

2010 LXDE working fine here. Just as good, if not better than 2009.4.

Thanks !!.....again  !!.....you always seem to come through for me.

I have too many problems with my main pc right now and not enough time. This thing works great as is for what it is (IBM X20...celeron500...384mb) and what I use it for. When winter gets here I'm sure I'll update it to the newest versin.

I understand. You may want to post to the forum, for all problems. If there are many start with one or two max among the more annoying ones. Don't forget to give the specs of the machine.
When you will reinstall, come back to tell us about it. :)
