[solved] Installed LXDE and find ext2 ?
« on: September 13, 2010, 05:34:13 AM »
Quick question, I am setting up LXDE on a new test partition, and did "blkid" and noticed that I have ext2, I had noticed ext2 when I rechecked with cfdisk after installation of LXDE.  I had just expanded my disk with 4 partitions using cfdisk so I decided to recheck after LXDE was installed.

So when I started installing LXDE I had already an emtpy partitions set up /dev/sda8 but not formatted, so I let LXDE format.

/dev/sda8: LABEL="LXDE-1" UUID="3d2629e9-13cb-4d88-9802-07e7c732d2f2" TYPE="ext2"   <--??? ext2

I was expecting ext4, when installed, was I not paying attention in class??    ;D  Or is this normal?

Now, now, old-polack might see I have been slack again   ;D ;D
I have just used tune2fs and brought it up to ext3, and I think perhaps I can use mke2fs to make ext4 but probably not when partition already has an install.

Update
I have figured that since the LXDE can run on smaller pc's that ext2 probably takes up less space. I will leave my LXDE at ext3 for the time, that will do me nicely.

I will mark the topic solved too.
