Mylivecd+Virtualbox..Problems
« on: September 11, 2010, 06:27:06 PM »
Hi to all,
I have been running 2010.07 in VirtualBox under win7!!!
I have created 3 or 4 livecd's and burned them to dvd's.
None of the disks, on booting and after selecting the installation mode, recognise a ps2 or usb mouse/keyboard.
Could anyone explain how I can get the mouse/keyboard to work??
Pretty Please.
Gezza

Hi Gezza,
Sorry, I have never remastered a virtual OS. Your ps2 & usb work in the guest OS? As I understand it, the guest OS accesses usb etc. via a vbox connection (obvious) so possibly your remaster will be looking for that same interface rather than the hardware.?
I did a quick forum search but didn't get anything directly relating to remastering. But maybe using varying search syntax you could get more info.  :)
Sorry to have no advice for you, but for sure more knowldgeable folks will come around.

edit: btw, I assume you are using your remaster to install a host OS, rt? And do you want to modify your remaster or connect usb/ps2 within your installed remaster? You might get quicker help with more specifics.  ;D

hi johnmart
Many thanks for coming back.
Yes, The virtual 2010.07 was working through win7 to get onto the internet via a Telstra (telecom) usb dongle.
Although it is supposed to work with Linux, I have not yet got it to do so.
So.. I have a fully upgraded 2010.07, KDE 4.5.1 etc and I would like to transfer it to my main machine.
As you say, It was working with, I  assume a synthesized mouse and keyboard. However, I was uderstanding that the system probed for new devicies on booting!!! So it should have found the new keyboard and mouse. It does probe the usb ports and I have found that the system works with keyboard and mouse so long as X does not run.
On the livecd I have """Deleted the X* in /etc""" I think, but  X will not then  start.
Although I have over 100GB assigned to my home folder and all tmp files are in home/user/temp I have not yet been able to create  an iso including the /var/chache folder. so without this I cannot update or upgrade. I am again trying to crate a livecd with all the root folder in but not the home/user/temp folder which holds the tmp files for mylivecd, which I have now done for the fifth or sixth time. But this time running the BleachBit system first.
Any further thoughts greatfully received.
Gezza.

Hhi  to all,
I have just burnt and verified 3 iso's of mylivecd created over the last 5 weeks and none of them, on booting to a graphic screen has either a keyboard or mouse(usb or ps2) Can one create a livecd from a virtual system and have it work properly?

Until now, I only have heard of problems with trying to remaster from a virtual pc......
Maybe someone has a solution??? (most of the people can't even boot them....)
