question about the in house applications
« on: September 09, 2010, 12:11:22 AM »
Hello,

I know that there are several applications being converted at the moment to Perl GTK (for PCC)....
See: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,76114.0.html
=> but I don't know which ones (all of them  ??? ) (getopenoffice, getvirtualbox, repo speed test, mylivecd, systeminfo, ezswitch, update-notifier? - are there more of them.....?)

Why do I ask?
=> I would like to translate that 'in house' apps to the Dutch language....
: is it still possible like explained in the 'stickies' in this forum (Package Translations)?

Or do I have to wait until they are converted (and will it then be possible to translate them)???

Thanks
RuBeN

The in house applications you mentioned are already available to use.  Have you used them and are they readable in Dutch now?

Are they integrated in PCC yet? I don't see them there.......

I used all of them before, but seperate from the PCC; and they are in English on my pc (have checked it on the dutch pclinuxos.nl forum, and I think there's nobody who have it in dutch  :D )

OK, so the best thing I can do is wait, I suppose?
=> that apps never have been available in Dutch, so when the apps are ready I can start translating them to Dutch if I understand it correctly...
(I guess they don't automatically appear in Dutch without making a translation  :P)

Yes my computer is already completely in Dutch (after running addlocale - in the past we had to do everything by ourselves, what addlocale does for us now, so I'm very happy with it  8) )

But the other scripts, written by and for PCLinuxOS aren't available in Dutch....
So, I'll wait until they are available, and then we'll translate them (Dutch team)......

Thanks for the info (I thought that maybe we had to give the translation before the end packages are uploaded to the repo's - but via the way you described, we can give the translation, which can be included in a later version of them  :))

rubentje1991,
Each app needs a po file for each language. If no po file exists, one needs to be created. For example, screenie at this time has a po file for German. For it to be converted to another language by addlocale, a po file should be made available for that language.

Reading the sticky topics in this section may help with understanding about this. This one, for example  http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,57750.0.html

Thanks for the response Neal....

I read that link before I started this thread....
But I think I can't start translating that .po files, because I don't know if the original text will be changed in the Perl GTK converted apps....
(would be unnecessary work to translate it, and a few days later to have to translate them again because they have changed!.....)

I either don't know which scripts/apps are converted to Perl GTK, and which aren't (I also can't find that on the forum and on the link I gave in my 1st post...)

At present, ezswitch has been converted. Others are in the process. Read the thread. Those that are being worked on at present are stated so in the thread.

BTW, not all in house apps will be converted. The conversion is mainly for those that we need to have in PCC.

OK, thanks for all the info Neal and ongoto

I'll keep an eye on that thread, and wait a little bit......
And then I'll try to translate the ones that are converted (like ezswitch - probably first), and the others that aren't converted also......
(via the process explained here on the forum)....

Currently the perl-gtk version of ezswitch doesn't support translations.
I hope to release a new version that does support translations sometime this weekend.

I just need to squash a pesky bug.

EDIT: The bug has been squashed. It was a typo (lol).
I will post a new version today.
