Hi, Gang,

A similar thread on different hardware occurs here:

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,78757.15.html

In the particular subject case above, I was installing PCLOS 2010.07 on a friend's laptop and struggled for over an hour to get sound configured before I stumbled upon two things:

1.)  In the Hardware section of the Control Center, I opened "Browser and Configure Hardware" and opened the tree for the soundcard, in this case a Realtek HD Audio (which uses the snd-hda-intel driver).  Set the option "model" for this sound card to auto.

2.)  In KMix, open up "Settings", then "Configure Channels" and drag the control for "Speaker" over to the right side and drop it there.  Raise the volume on this slider and select "Configure Kmix...", then check the box for "restore volume settings on login..." and click OK to save and exit the dialog.

After doing these things (setting card options and configuring KMix), log out and log back in.  Sound will work (and the volume control wheel on the front of the unit will actually be able to control the master volume level, too.)

Thought this might save someone else some steps.  I'm going to bed, y'all - gotta work tomorrow.

Later On,
D

Um... subject line too long so tagging at the end of the message body {PCLOS 2010.07 KDE-4 Audio}
