Great how-to.  Only one problem. It is for KDE 4.4.

I worked through the examples and some have changed
dramatically with KDE 4.5.

Too bad going to http://userbase.kde.org/Plasma/HowTo/4.5
takes you to an in-complete page, clearly under construction.

Hopefully, an updated version of the animated how-tos will
be posted in the not too distant future.
