I wanted this right-click service menu a lot, and I downloaded it from here: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Dropbox+ServiceMenu?content=124416

After download, I just extracted it to a temp folder, ran  ./install-it.sh  and it works great.

I get this from my menu;

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

Couldn't get public url: Illegal Argument: The path "/home/andrzejl/Dropbox/Public/BIOS C610.avi" does not exist

Thats what I get when trying "Copy to Public folder and..." - the file already is in my Dropbox Public folder... and its not under the location its looking for it.

If You keep standard location for Dropbox folder - in Your home - it will work - otherwise its not seeing public folder correctly. Will investigate.

When I try to generate a link to a file not in my Public folder I get a notice that I need version 0.8 or greater of Dropbox.

Apparently I have 0.7.110 installed ........

I learned my lesson about that in another circumstance and that was enough. Now I just leave well enough alone and let Dropbox put its folder where it likes it.

That is the latest Linux version...

As for the link not working, hey Andy, does this work for you? Because I created it exactly as you said:

I thought it might have something to do with the space in the name ......

Okay, here's a link with 3 spaces in the filename - opens beautifully in my browser, but then who knows..: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2013223/tres%20sombreros%20tequila_large.jpg

I believe - though not certain - the way to get version 8 (or above) is to use the build made by the Dropbox forum community
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

Sony Vaio SVE1513A4ESI Laptop, Intel Core i5, 2.6GHz, 6GB RAM, 750GB, 15.6" Intel HD Graphics 4000

You can only generate url in the Public folder, nothing else...
Or what is the question?

Yes but with .8 it should be possible to do so from any directory in the account

Yeah, what it the question? ;)

To recap, you can only generate the URL by first copying the file to the Public folder in its default location, and then looking for the URL in Klipper, just like the menu says: "Copy to public folder and paste URL to Klipper".

As for the path, the link I posted earlier was generated to Klipper via Dropbox, and the actual path, with 3 space like I said, is /home/me/Dropbox/Public/tres sombreros tequila_large.jpg. Obviously DBox ignores all that: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2013223/tres%20sombreros%20tequila_large.jpg

And yes, it does that, as long as I'm using Dolphin; the service we're discussing is only for Dolphin, and the default for Dropbox is Nautilus. In Nautilus, none of this works for me, either.

I'm still wondering where you can get version .8 for linux, though: https://www.dropbox.com/install still only shows me v.0.7.110.
