Hi Just19,
What news about your bad partition and the behavior of last Openbox Bonsai version ?

I thought I posted about that ...... and you replied ......  is it in the other thread perhaps?

confused   ???

No, I'm waiting for it since page 57: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,79046.msg685894.html#msg685894

(you know it's like in the long summer tv series. ;D ;D )

Must have been having dreams ......

I tried today but failed to test it .......  my partitions all showed 'clean'.

No I am not going to upset them deliberately   ;D

If I notice the unclean situation returning I will test again.

regards.

Hi Just19, :D

This is pure magic. Right ? <mode joke>adding unionfs and icu44 have repaired that partition</mode>...  8)
Do you believe it ?   :D :D :D

I believe you must be the harder tester around here. Would you declare this version ready to go ? :)

Hi loukingjr,

Exept for this strange circumstance met by Just19 everyone seems to say that the latest is ok to go. I don't have news on the dev mailing list to know if Texstar would be willing to add it to the PCLinuxOS community remasters. There is one black point : people might think at first that it is a ready to go, maybe even if the description explains that it is in fact  sort of an enhanced core version. :)

Just19 : I had an idea. Could you retry once to boot from the preceding version, the one that does not have unionfs, and then just after on the latest-with-unionfs, and tell if in regard of the partition that was seen as unclean, if you get a different result between the 2 versions ? That would be very nice of you.

Regards,
Mélodie

::sigh:: I knew this day would come.lol What I know about Linux you could fit in a bonsai tree.  ;D For example, I don't know what unionfs is, or what an "unclean partition" is. or if the "2010.11 mini" that was on the servers is the one without "unionfs". Also, I run Linux in VirtualBox as you might remember and any results good or bad may not be meaningful compared to running it on hardware. But if you like, sure  ;D

When you don't know, ask ! ;D
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unionfs

:)

/If the reading of this page makes you think "the unionfs things is still not a very clear thing to me", don't worry, it's the same for me. Only one thing : it's as in onions: has layers. :)

oh THAT unionfs! lol. Actually I have something like that capability in VirtualBox although I don't use it. I mostly like making pretty pictures for desktops.  ;D

I do wish (just a little), I knew how to make my iMac boot from a USB stick with something other than the Mac OS. You have to set up EFI to get anything else to work. But I'm too lazy to learn all that's necessary. I was lucky I managed to get my iMac to triple boot.  ;)

No real need I think Melodie.
The previous version had no problems when I tested it with no unclean partition, and neither does the latest version.

Until I again generate an unclean partition I cannot be certain ......  but even considering that, I would be of the opinion that this is ready for release.

There is nothing perfect .....  and never will be.
There are some things that may not be sorted in a short time span but likely will be over a longer one .......  or maybe miracuously disappear  ;D

regards.

Hi Just19,

In this case, I could as well leave icu44 but remove unionfs-tools that has not been needed in any of the previous versions until I try to install it to solve your issue, + do an update, and publish a version to submit at the dev list, hoping it might join the other community versions ?

I am opened to suggestions.

Mélodie

It is so small I would be inclined to leave it in ......  even though at this time there is no definite reason to do so .....

Yes it is very small, but the whole idea of this version is "little streams make big rivers". I discovered in the French version I recently pulled out of it two places where some files can be removed or lessered : I think (must check) that it is in /lib/lib/something kbd : many files added one after the other for no reason. I first tested removing them all in a virtual machine, rebooted and saw that indeed 2 were recreated but not 8 of them or so...

I did this research in the system because adding the French locale caused the iso to start at 261 MB to more than 290 MB, which caused me a chock ! :D

And no way I'll get rid of the apt file lists and so. I really want the packages be seen in Synaptic even in a machine where an internet connection won't be available ! Never know what circumstances we will meet with while doing a demonstration. :)

What about presenting it to the dev  team ? Any suggest in this regard ?  :)
