Mélodie,

Downloading now and will try it out on an old HP laptop I have.  One suggestion at this time.  You might use kernel 2.6.32.21 bfs, as there is a bug with the b43 and b44 broadcom drivers in kernel 2.6.33.7.bfs, effecting both wired and wireless setup.  Looking forward to trying PCLinuxOS Openbox Mini.

Jeff

Is that why there is a eth0 (wireless) covering the eth1 (wired, connected) and I have to do a "ifconfig eth0 down" at each session to get my connection back ? It tries to connect with the wavelan internal chipset !

I might retain this suggest for the very next version, if more can give me information about that one particular kernel  ? What about microphones in some laptops with ICH9 Intel chipset for instance ? (a problem met by a french user - french forum). :)

Now I just remastered the 4th or 5th of the day, and I should try it fast and upload it. I added xdg-user-dirs and configured the files accordingly, after following this thread: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,79045.msg652930.html#msg652930

I'm impatient to try it before deciding wether I upload it.

Mélodie,

Booted up fine, but I'm unable to connect to the internet.  This old HP is wireless only and I need ndiswrapper to set up my wireless card.  Sorry I couldn't test this further for you.

melodie:

I only had a couple issues. I couldn't connect to my router because I use WPA encryption and WPA_Supplicant is not included, and since the ethernet port is dead i can't download it :P Also the first time I logged in the desktop would be black. The only thing on the screen was the taskbar. Logging out and back in solved this.

Other than that you did a fine job with this LiveCD! :D

Hi,

I have added wpa_supplicant since, and I will add ndiswrapper too.

Also the first time I logged in the desktop would be black. The only thing on the screen was the taskbar. Logging out and back in solved this.

I get this too in Virtualbox and in USB live. I try to solve it. This comes from "pcmanfm -d &" in /home/guest/.config/openbox/autostart.sh file. It seems pcmanfm is not started correctly. I could turn around by using feh only, but then some people will find they can't put desktop icons with the right-click on lxpanel menus...

If you have any idea to fix it fermly, you're welcome.

The issues are all broadcom related specific to the b43 and b44 drivers.  I don't think they are related to your problem.  My problems have all been related to the b44 hard wired driver.  However, I've seen b43 wireless problems posted here.

Kernel 2.6.32.21.bfs, is the most recent of the 2.6.32 series available for download with Synaptic.  It also includes the latest security patches.  My prior broadcom hard wired problems have been resolved with this kernel.  I've also read that this kernel handles the b43 wireless problems also, whoever, I'm unable to test that.

Concerning microphone, I've not had a problem with this kernel and intel chipsets.

Thanks, I'll give it another try after you add ndiswrapper.

I have changed kernel too. Being uploading now. Didn't even test it : too late for me today.

To be followed... :)

Bye the way : I have included a python script in it, it's name is shutdown-dialog.py. Maybe if you appreciate it - it replaces the logout command in lxpanel menu - you may want to give me a vote for the package request I did for it ?

I look forward to trying it and you got my vote on the package request.

I did not quite understand why all users are not allowed shut down etc through the sudoers setup.

Quote
But as it is originally, shutdown and reboot require root password... I wondered if it was possible to avoid sending beginners reconfigure the sudoers,

I do not know why a user needs to do anything with sudoers --- if all users are allowed shut-down.

Thanks ......  and yes a +1 anyway  ;)

Thank you.
I think it's something related to the rights to use /usr/sbin/shutodown -h and /usr/sbin/shutdown -r "directly". Anyhow with the commands sent to hal throught dbus, this is not a problem.

Would enabling this in the sudoers file not have the desired effect?

Code: [Select]
# %users  localhost=/sbin/shutdown -h now
... and maybe extending it a bit also ....

Just wondering .....

This would. I think that in matter of configurations "to ease for beginners", it's better in this version not to go too deep in the system. If someone takes this version and wants to make it lighter, create a version with security features and so on... or a web server, file server, whatever : he will just get rid of shutown-dialog.py, lxpanel, and that's about it. There are very few depends to theses. (shutdown-dialog needs pygtk and lxpanel I think nothing special, or very few).

Just to remind : PCLinuxOS Openbox does not need any panel. All you need is in the right-click thanks to menu.xml, rc.xml files and openbox-menu program.  I put this one thinking of how that could be provided for children in an educational version, as Crow started to work on one, and I wanted to work on one as well. So teachers and children will want to get something looking very much like what they already know, with a panel providing classical menus.

Very nice melodie.
Have a couple problems...
No back ground on boot, already been mentioned with install , this is with "live" unless I log out and back in

If I try to move the task bar to the bottom it disappears completely and I can only get it back with a log out (which is how I got a background after none on boot )

Could not connect to the 'net. Get a "Could not install packages (rp-pppoe)!" message when I try.

This is a five year old box with a AMD Geode 1750 NX and 692mb ram
currently running LXDE 2010.7
Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.
