.....
If now you get the one iso that is available, and dated on November 14th, put it to iblio, and eventually announce it : I won't touch it anymore ! :D

Best regards,
Mélodie

You do excellent work!  :)

Was that with a live cd or with a live usb ? How much ram does that machine have ?
Installed with a trick, booted from the KDE LiveCD and opened the tray at the moment the display showed:
Detecting USB mass-storage devices
I left the earlyer used UNetbootin USB stick in an USB 1.1 slot, de machine, not capable of USB booting, now continued booting from USB. (livecd.sqfs) Much faster ;)
This machine uses 1G memory (added in the list)
Quote
Yes, it's on purpose.
Leave the install screen at max in this case ;)
I intentionally installed without caching the packages from the other machine to have a live situation and timing for future PCLos customers.
Thanks for the info.

Hi, just downloaded Bonsai 2010.11.13, used unetbootin to prepare USB stick and run on old laptop.

Booted up alright, but no wireless so I cannot go internet.

So I used PCC> Network centre >click wireless, the error is:

Some packages (ipw2200-firmware) are required but aren't available. Please email texstar at gmail.com about it.

The following component is missing: /lib/firmware/ipw2200-*.fw

The required files can also be installed from this URL:

http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/firmware.php

How could I solve this wireless issue?

HI,
You can get it at any mirror and install it by hand.

http://ftp.nluug.nl/ibiblio/distributions/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/RPMS.nonfree/

[   ] ipw2200-firmware-3.0-2pclos2010.noarch.rpm                 14-Feb-2010 15:47  265K

Once the package in your home, as root from console:
Code: [Select]
# rpm -Uvh ipw2200-firmware-3.0-2pclos2010.noarch.rpm
You can install the distro first, get the firmware at hand either in the home of another partition or in a usb stick, then install it this way.

DeBaas : good trick to the the usb interfaces detected with the live cd first ! I didn't know it. :)

Based on the Bonsai ISO I created a startup CD wihout livecd.sqfs for non USB bootable PC's
It is working (till now) for all the 2010-10 and 2010-11 PCLos versions (have to test with FM jet ;) )
When the CD is booted it will search for the first available livecd.sqfs (extracted from PCLos 2010-10 or 2010-11 ISO versions) on the root of all HDD/USB partititions with fat, fat32 or ext2/3. I did not check for other file systems, but it won't see NTFS or ext4.

http://members.tele2.nl/berntsen1/2010-10-11boot.iso  14.5MiB download.
md5 afa1b38a9e42899019fed6da1182886f

The only change was the remove of livecd.sqfs from the ISO.

If someone thinks this is usefull, feel free to put this on tips & tricks

Posted for info only

The only potential problem is when you have more than one such livecd.sqfs file stored ......  say Bonsai, and the full Openbox. The search will always use the first one it finds as you said. WHich means one will always be incorrect.

If you wish to overcome that you can rename the livecd.sqfs to bonsai.sqfs and change the boot code from livecd=livecd to livecd=bonsai
That should ensure it will search ONLY for a file named bonsai.sqfs, and not use any other livecd.sqfs it might find.

You could then leave the livecd.sqfs file on the CD, make separate boot selection options for booting from the CD or booting from elsewhere ....  as USB or wherever the bonsai.sqfs file may be found.

regards.

Hi,

Else than on a live cd, where could it go ? CD's are 700 MB capable. Are there some other media where it could be interesting to have a much smaller file ?

And what about booting the usb live with plop boot manager, or such ? There is an image available at Slitaz, with several boot managers ready to do in it, that you can dd to a 1.44 floppy:
http://slitaz.org/en/get/index.html

Floppy boot disk

This floppy diskette can start SliTaz on old PCs with or without a CD-ROM. It can boot SliTaz from an usb flash drive, a SliTaz CD/DVD, a hard drive, the LAN by PXE and even the Internet with gPXE.

Floppy disk (1,44 Mb) - image [ md5 ]

You can write this floppy image with SliTaz bootfloppybox, Windows rawrite or simply dd (dd if=floppy-grub4dos of=/dev/fd0).

I gave it a try before, it's not Slitaz specific.

@Just19
I only wanted to speed up the non USB bootable PC(s), where I mostly use different bootable 1 or 2G USB sticks (8G for the FullMonty) for the demo of all flavors of PCLos, they all contain their livecd.sqfs, and I don't want to have so much CD's with me when traveling on bike ;) I am an USB cord geek ;) but thanks for explaining.
Ed

@melodie
P.S. Plop did not work for me on several PC's where this CD solution did the trick.

I think you misunderstood ....

what I described would be a single CD with the boot stanzas needed and one USB stick with different files suitably named so the incorrect one does not get used.
You do not need multiple CDs .....

Hi,
On this unique CD you would need the isolinux directories each containing the specific initrd for each stanza : is that right ?

Yes, and renamed to match the name used on the livecd.sqfs file it is matched to.
The same scheme as is used on the liveusb creator ....  have a look at the files after you have created a live USB with that utility.
