See you for the next version !!! ^^
(I will use "--desktop --daemon-mode &" pcmanfm options in autostart.sh ). :)

Thanks for all the information you provided.  I'm learning a lot here.

I look forward to RC2,

Jeff

It's just great, I'm learning a lot too while doing that, thanks to you, to many here, to people at openbox and lxde chan...

I just tried RC2 in Vbox. I have to redo it... because I forgot testing repo in Synaptic. XD
And also again forgot to "loadkeys us" in tty before remastering. :p

At first boot in Live Virtualbox, tadam !!

This is how it looks !

I hope it will also work that way in the oldest machines. Start bringing out theses P I of your's. :D

Regards,
Mélodie

I have a 500mhz celeron with 128mb ram (4mb shared video memory). After I got it installed it runs reasonably for its age and capabilities. ;)

I tried sleep 10 and even sleep 20, but no luck with the wallpaper. The desktop icon shows, pcmanfm runs reasonably as a file manager. The panel works, I reset to 100%. The file management icons are very outdated. Not important, though.

I got a black screen because ~/.config/pcmanfm/main points to:
/home/guest/.local/wallpapers/wallpaper.png

I changed it to ~/.local/wallpapers/wallpaper.png and it works!
I installed flash and played a youtube video! A little jerky, and definitely not full screen.

Youtube and videos ! You machine is a Great-Gran-Pa running on it's hands ! ^^

For the panel : if you put it at 100%, you can't access Openbox right-click menus when a window is opened. This is why I didn't have it set at 100%. Note that you can also set it to be placed at the right or at the left of the screen. It's not an obligation to get it centered.

Hi melodie ,
So far I haven't had any problems hardware wise. Can't test a printer as I don't have one ,although I do use print-pdf ..I've installed abiword and a few other apps but to get the sytem to what would be useful for me a lot of bloat is installed for such a lightweight distro . For my needs Kde or gnome is much better ,but for those who like a minimal desktop or have low hardware specs this system should fly . I 'm really not able to comment on the technical aspects of Openbox Mini but as for me it wouldn't be my first choice if I had any other options. Maybe when the distro becomes fully developed I would feel differently.

                                                                                                                                           Thanks, Rob

Oops, I have a problem.

I installed printerdrake and all of its dependencies through synaptic.  I configured two printers - one connected to another pclos computer and shared and the other a network computer connected by ethernet.  Both computers were configured easily and normally and I only tried to print from one of them.  It worked fine.

However, upon rebooting I have lost the function of the keyboard and mouse.  The icon is blinking in the username field of the bootsplash page, but I can go no further.  I will try a console boot and see if anything changes.  I do not know what to look for except using a livecd to view the logs.

My system is a PIII 800mhz, with 512mb of ram, 12gb harddrive.

Edit & Update:  Yes, something is happening here.  I have full mouse and keyboard function up until X is started.
My testing was done as follows:  I booted to a console by entering "3" in the kernel options line of grub.  At the console, I logged in as user, then as root, and ran "XFdrake" to set the video options.  Here the keyboard and mouse worked fine when I clicked on "test" for the video viewing.  All was fine up to this point.

I then "exit" as root to become the guest user, ran "startx" at the console and at the bootsplash window, I had no mouse or keyboard function.

I also noticed that upon booting, the HAL daemon and the Avahi daemon "FAILED" to start. Oh, and I did verify the md5sum and ran a media check, which passed, before installing.  I did notice that after synaptic ran, there was a "Fail" notice that something (file, folder, or program?) wasn't found.  I should have saved it, but I didn't.  If someone verifies this, please save this message.

I don't know what else to test/check.  I have to leave for a while, work is interfering with my computer time, again.  However, I will check back periodically during the day.

Hi nixer,

Is that with the latest RC2 ?

gseaman : I changed the setting for the wallpaper in the RC2: it points now to /usr/share/wallpaper/wallpaper.png, so it won't be lost anymore.

Yes, Melodie, it is.  I am looking for the synaptic log to try and find that message with the "failure" notation.  Do you know where the synaptic log is?

Yes, it's under /root/.synaptic/logs

All logs are there untouched, from the beginning (on purpose).

I wonder if some packages that were pulled from testing in order to get the new PCManFM could be likely to produce this effect. Would you try to install all packages for printing as you did, in a RC1.5 install ?

(Knowing you just have to reconfigure the path to the wallpaper in PCManFM, as it points to the home of guest).

Now I know why a file search for "synaptic" didn't find it.

I have the synaptic logs which shows which programs were installed, but I was wanting to find a notation of what was the output after the installation was finished.  Is that kept somewhere?

I did three synaptic updates this morning.  Do you want the output of all three logs?  It is the printerdrake log that would be of value since the system worked fine up until it was installed.

yes, I will re-install RC1.5 now and then printerdrake to see if it works.  It will take a while though, maybe an hour.  The printerdrake install will take the most time.

Thank you very much. Take all the time you need, there is no hurry, at least on my side. :)

You will be happy to know that Midori has been updated from git and it fixed the dropdown menu crash.

Excuse me : what package is that ? Is it the one at main repos dated of August 30th or is there another one somewhere ?

Thanks for bringing light...

Hi
I can't answer until I see the logs. Could you send me the full logs in one archive please ? At "meets1901 AT no-log DOT org" (replace at and dot by '@ 'and '.' of course)

You can also try to go see /var/log/messages, but not sure at all you can find something of value there. Just try to see if you can find in there todays date and see what can be under ?
