Compaq presario cq62 no wifi realtek r8192se
« on: August 31, 2010, 08:32:40 PM »
Shows r8192se module loaded in pcc. Device says 8171.

I have tried ndiswrapper using a download from realtek, tried the drivers in c:\windows\system32\Drivers that the W7 system uses to no avail.
dmesg shows hw radio off:
[fglrx] Reserved FB block: Shared offset:0, size:1000000
[fglrx] Reserved FB block: Unshared offset:fffb000, size:5000
r8169: eth0: link down

r8169: eth0: link up
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready
martian source 255.255.255.255 from 192.168.0.1, on dev eth0
ll header: ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:00:40:05:b5:d0:41:08:00
eth0: no IPv6 routers present
[nt@localhost ~]$

I am running on the ethernet cable for now.

says hw radio off. The only wifi switch is on the F12 keypad, along with the orange status light built into key, normally white when running on W7.

Also, the brightness function keys do not work, which are in same row as f keys.

i tried in the bios the selection to have to use fn key or just a straight tap to the function keys.

The sound works, and those function keys work.

I also tried some W7 settings, like removing the check to 'allow computer to power off wifi' in the windows OS.

Thanks!

I just tried the killswitch-manager on the short time i was able to get the owner to try the linux boot again.

She was frustrated because the wifi key I lent her wasn't working anymore when she was traveling, and fortunately she did not let another friend try the other linux distro on it until she got back to me.

I had no problem getting the usb key to work again for now, but wanted to get the internal wifi card running.

It's been a long time now with no reply here like I promised her about this distro.

When I run the killswitch manager, on her machine I get a tiny black box with an x in it, no check boxes or anything like I got on my machine.

I don't remember what the term window said when i tried as user and SU, but there were no error messages.

now what?

This was before I decided to go into wifi training  ;D  Looks like a juicy problem.

About killswitch-manager from what I have found this works sometimes and not at other times. None of my pc's have worked, the icon will show with various numbers of controlled devices detected but i can not see any result. Dell D610 shows Icon but no action. My desktop machine shows icon but poorer response. In my opinion this program needs to be recognised as beta.

I am trying to look into the deeper runnings and need qdbusviewer at Qt4 but I have been unable to find this and try.

Ok so this should get your post to the front line again.

Oooops, just noticed that this is in the hardware section, I think it might to better in the networking.  Any mods prepared to move it?  ;D

Still waiting to get this laptop back (and the wifi dongle I lent her). Hope she didn't just decide to use the W7 side....

Keeping an eye on your other thread.
