wbar doesnt want to shutdown
« on: August 29, 2010, 12:48:11 AM »
When I go to reboot or shutdown my system after installing wbar I get a dialog box that says some program refuses to shutdown and i have 3 tabs to choose from 1st force shutdown now 2nd wait for program or 3rd cancel shutdown. It doesnt seem to have any negative effects but is mildly annoying. does anyone have an idea on this one.

Hi,

Before login out of the session, move the wbar home directory aside, so that it be forced to be recreated. It can be in /home/itsgregman/.wbar, or maybe in /home/itsgregman/.config/wbar : locate it, then rename it ".wbar-backup" or if it's in .config, rename it "wbar-backup".

Then restart the session and try again.

If you have done changes in it to tweak, the tweaks will be lost as being in the "wbar-backup"... if the problem does not come from there, then you should restore the backup by renaming it as it was (after erasing the new one). Then in console:

$ killall wbar

$ wbar

and when it comes to messages "3 tabs to choose from 1st force shutdown now 2nd wait for program or 3rd cancel shutdown." then choose *cancel shutown" and look what messages you get in the console where you start wbar from.

Sometimes it helps figure out the origin of a problem.

Good luck !

Im using e17. Sorry I forgot this section dealt with multiple desktops.

Melodie I tried what you said to do but when wbar is started by the term it shuts down when the term is exited. So I had a normal shutdown. I dont know if it was because the term shut down first and closed wbar or if it could have been something else. It isnt realy a problem for me just wanted to see if there was a known solution. Im really loving E17 on PcLinux by the way. Even with these minor annoyances Ive moved it up to my number 1 spot.

Why don't you use itask-ng, the e17 launcher/taskbar with zooming icons. Looks great, bit Mac-ish.
To use it you have to enable the itask-ng module first then set it ip in Settings panel/ extensions tab.

It holds icons for your favorite apps, shows your opened windows and you can even add shelve gadgets to it.
