Gateway M320

I just installed and updated everything and have no sound within the browser (youtube and whatever) or via Amarok.

Coffetime, IMHO, the "Click" link is a bit tough and abrupt on a New Friend. I am glad I didn't get that kind of reception when I first joined PCLOS. I use Google quite a lot but sometimes a quick answer from the community forum is very much appreciated. Does that also make me a "lazy sponge"?  ;D Having said that I agree that originalhandy should provide more details to help one of us help him.

KDE and the latest Firefox
I did all the updates and applied them like was suggested on the Google search I did.
I made sure all my sound was not on mute and was up highest as when I browsed the forums because some people noted that that's all their problems were, low sound :S

Ive used PCLOS since 2007 and it has always worked straight away on laptops and desktops that I have installed it on. I put it on many for friends and family. I guess I have just been lucky with it till now :D

I am not exactly a nub, I think there was forums here before wasn't there  ? I asked questions on a PCLOS forum before.

hello originalhandy: I believe there is a post somewhere here on the forum about youtube sound and how to fix it. If you search the forum , it should turn up. I'll have a quick look also and see if I can find it. hope this helps.

Might try this one for starters.  http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,66982.msg630172.html#msg630172

I tried the link in that and it didnt work.

When I do alsaconf it says it was a success.
I do get this
Quote
Loading driver...
Doing alsactl to store mixer settings...                        [  OK  ]
no. (sound is being used by pid   3093  3162))                  [FAILED]
ALSA driver is already running.Doing alsactl to restore mixer se[  OK  ]
Setting default volumes...

Not sure what to do from here.

Just installed PCLOS 2010.7 on my laptop  and had no sound as well. It was the simplest solution that was consistent with the Samsung NC-10 and NC-20. Hope this works for you.
When I opened up kmix in the system tray there were only controls for headphones and PCM. Click on settings>>>Configure Channels. Drag the speaker icon from the left panel to the right panel and the speakers worked.

originalhandy,

Try as Duvid uggests , and ensure  that if there is an 'external amplifier' label to ensure its moved to the active side, and double check that there are no muted or volume reduced sections.

If this all look ok then try going to the configure your desktop icon (KDE Control centre) and locate the multimedia tab and highlight the listed sound system one by one, and test.

Another possibility is that if you have an 'addon sound card' to ensure that the onboard audio is disabled

If none of these suggestions work then post back and  we can look at alsaconf and kernel modules etc

I tried that, dragged everything over and all are turned up to the max.
