Minimizing programs: Firefox, Opera, Synaptic etc. Don't show up on taskbar anymore. Programs still listed in KSysGuard though. No way to resume these programs. Can restart some (losing all data) others have to End Process in KSysGuard first.

How to fix? No compiz, beryl, fusion or cairo installed. ATI mobile radeon 2600HD graphics card.

Hey Zap, you prolly inadvertently removed the "Smooth Tasks" widget from the taskbar. Click on the cashew, unlock widgets, then search for Smooth Tasks and add it back to the taskbar. Hope this helps.

I don't need no steenking Windows --tuxalish

Now when programs minimize a whole description of the program minimizes, not just the icon.

Even with smooth tasks I can't move icons around.

I removed the default panel & installed PyPanel. I don't know what to do next. I'm just stabbing around.

Have you any suspicion on why that problem arose?

You know you have the ultimate way to restore KDE settings to the default state - reinstall kde4-config. But you'll loose your individual settings.

Now when programs minimize a whole description of the program minimizes, not just the icon.

Right-click in Smooth Tasks area; click Smooth Task Settings; click Appearance; untick Expand Tasks. (Or if you prefer, just change the Keep Expanded setting to "none".)

Well right now I got it pretty much the way I want it. Found I have to open up the Panel Toolbox to move around & send icons to the panel (taskbar). I'm going mark this SOLVED. If I remember how. Thanks all.
