[SOLVED] Strange output from glxgears
« on: August 25, 2010, 08:42:50 PM »
i was watching another post about slow desktop under KDE 4.5 and noticed a command i hadn't run in a while...

Quote
[frazelle09@localhost ~]$ fgl_glxgears
Using GLX_SGIX_pbuffer
Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 256.35,
but this NVIDIA driver component has version 256.44.  Please make
sure that the kernel module and all NVIDIA driver components
have the same version.
117 frames in 5.0 seconds = 23.400 FPS
134 frames in 5.0 seconds = 26.800 FPS
127 frames in 5.0 seconds = 25.400 FPS
154 frames in 5.0 seconds = 30.800 FPS
141 frames in 5.0 seconds = 28.200 FPS
113 frames in 5.0 seconds = 22.600 FPS

i get a beautiful cube i've never seen before which rotates pretty slow but it's kinda cute.  i just updated through Synaptic -- about 170 Mb and actually my DE seems just a little bit faster.

Any ideas about this API mismatch?

Have a great evening!  :)

May be it's simply telling that you have updated your nVidia driver (done automatically by Synaptic) but are running an older kernel (recently they told me one has to install different kernel manually).

Take a look here about glxgears:
http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Glxgears_is_not_a_Benchmark

Look at the bottom for heavy tests.

Phoronix doesn't seem to be in the repos.  Should we suggest it?

Have a great morning!  and thanks for replying!  :)

That's what i figured.  If it's not in the repos we need to suggest that it be packaged and placed in the repos, please.  If not, as the saying goes, we may bork our system, or what i think you said "FSCK'ed it нахуй!".

Have a great morning!  :)

Yes, right, I meant the same and you understood my fsck ;D.
You or me should make a proposal if we really need it :)

fgl_glxgears is mainly  for ATI cards and uses the fglrx driver. This driver provides hardware acceleration for ATI cards, which is why
results look better with ATI cards.

Try just
glxgears

for your Nvidia card.
To resolve the conflict open synaptic and check which Nvidia drivers are installed, you should only have one driver for your card.

Ah, no wonder!  Thanks Hal!  i had three installed.  Removed two and left nvidia...current.  Now my glxgears has increased from 170 FSP to 203 FPS.  Every little bit helps.

If this keeps up i'll probably completely remove the other two.  i'm waiting on a new GeForce 7600GT w/512 Mb this afternoon.  Hopefully it'll help even more.

Thanks again guys and have a great afternoon!  :)

As hal8000 suggested, try glxgears, cause these results are very, very, very poor. Video card?
PCLinuxOS e17 Club member/e17 video/Wifi problems?

Are these the results you are speaking of?  They seem pretty fast to me, but heck, what do i know?

Thanks for posting and have a great afternoon!  :)
