In E17 to shut down the computer I have to select menu > system > power off. (3 clicks.)

Is it possible to either:

1. Change the name of the menu entry from "System" to "Shutdown" or "log out" - I don't think "system" is an appropriate name for this function.

2. can I put a "shutdown" button, on the shelf (panel)  like I can with other versions of PCLOS? if so, how do I do it?

Thanks

Yes you can add an icon to the ibar, right click icon change properties then add a "new argument" use the command that brings up the shutdown menu.  Sorry that's so vague I'll have to actually switch over to E17 and do it myself to remember the details :-\.  Maybe I'll be back or someone like smurfslover has a more concise answer.  In short, YES you can do that.

You can also set a keyboard shortcut to shutdown your pc, can't go faster than that. :)

Every windows machine has an un-patchable critical vulnerability... Its called "Power ON" switch.

Hi smurfslover and omskates

I'd like to do what omskates suggested and put an icon in the ibar to shutdown (or at least to bring up the panel of system options (power off, suspend, log out, suspend, etc.)

I understand to add a new icon, right click and select change properties, then what?

Is there a suitable icon, such as a red circle with 1 and 0 in it? (like an on/off switch? ) where would I find that?

I'd appreciate step-by-step instructions as I an new to this and get confused...

Sorry, but in other distros I have used, and even other versions of PCLOS, there has been a shutdown icon on the shelf / panel and I have come to like that feature.

Thanks for your help.

Settings Panel /applications /new application
Choose a name and use this command gksu /usr/bin/halt
On the second tab choose an icon and click apply

You might have to restart enlightenment first but you can now add the icon to ibar or itask-ng.

PS clicking the icon wil ask for root password, maybe someone else knows how to shutdown the computer without asking passwd with a command? /usr/bin/halt will shutdown from terminal without root rights though.

thanks for your help.

I now have what I wanted and don't have to enter the password. Here's how:

1. right click an icon in the ibar, select "add new icon" and select an icon from the (small) list. (It will not be the icon I want, it is just a starting place.) Select Add, then OK.
2. Right click on that new icon in the ibar. Select "change icon properties".
3.delete the name and choose a new name for the function. (I called it "Shut Down")
4.Enter the command you wish. (I just put "halt".)
5. in the top line select "icon". Left click in the image that appears. A list of icons should appear.
6. you are now in /usr/share/icons (or should be) You can navigate around for icons galore. I liked /usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/apps/xfce-system-exit.png
7.select Ok
8. Restart the computer.

at point 4 above I did NOT enter "gksu /usr/bin/halt"  I just put "halt".

It powers off without needing any other selections or password.

thanks.
