Make Chromium Browser look like a Native KDE Application

So Chromium Browser is nice and fast but what turned me off was the fact that it didn't fit in with the rest of my desktop so I went on a mission to figure out how to make it fit in...

Open up Configure your Desktop - Workspace Appearance and Behavior - Window Behavior - Window Rules



Then click new on the left side

In the pop up click on Detect Window Properties. Then Click on an open Chromium Window. When a window pops up just hit ok.

Change the Description to Chromium Browser.

Now change to the Preferences Tab. And Check the No Border box and change it to force but make sure the box to the right is unchecked.



Then when that is done click ok then apply.

Now in chromium right click next to your tabs and tell it to use System Titlebars and borders then exit out of chromium for now.

After that is done open chromium back up and download this extension

It's the Oxygen theme extension. It doesn't fit well with the Oxygen window theme but it fits in perfectly with the Nitrogen Window Theme.

If you followed the directions right you should end up with this



Like I said it goes perfectly with the Nitrogen Window Decoration....
Nitrogen also fits in very well with other gtk apps..

Having read the above I decided it was time I looked at this, as I have been avoiding using Iron browser because I dislike the border etc.

I used a slight variation on your method which gets me the Iron browser as it should be in my system.

When you create the New Window Rules entry and put the Browser Name into the Description box, underneath it you will see a box for Window Class.
By default that will likely have the Browser name .....  maybe  "iron Iron" for the Iron browser.

Change that to

"systemsettings Systemsettings"

OK out and Apply.

The Browser should now take the System Settings which are applied to all windows, and be exactly the same as others.

At least that is how it seems to work here .......

now if I could get rid of that dark blue on top

As a noob when changing something I think first (or on every step) is it possible and how to get back if something goes wrong or I don't like it.

So I think it's useful you explain how to go back too

No, I downloaded nothing.

Under the Personal tab, in Iron Settings, select "Use System title bar and borders" at the bottom of the page.

Maybe that is it?

Was just exploring with Iron and getting extensions. This horrendous animated ad slid onto the screen from the side, taking up the whole screen and it was for an antivirus. (I think, I have really nearly mastered the art of 'not seeing' advertising.) Yuk, yuk! Back to firefox or konqueror for me.

I think Glassified with Keramick windows decorations ...........  I am not big into this stuff so I have never even downloaded a theme or anything to do with the looks of the desktop.

In Iron, I selected Classic Themes.

Is that what you wanted to know?

If not then just direct me to where to find the info for you

I haven't been very interested in changing anything more than the wallpaper! Except, maybe conky. Anyway, I did everything listed except download a theme, and that didn't go so well for me. I'm glad it works for both of you. I was mostly just curious, not truly interested in iron.

Just delete the Window Rule and it's back to normal

Me neither .....  but I found myself avoiding Iron due to the fact I did not feel comfortable with its borders .......  found it difficult to see the darn thing clearly.
This has fixed that problem for me ........  see pic now attached to my previous post to see what it looks like.

Chromium is the Linux release of Chrome, right ?

Why don't they use the same name as the windows release

No, Chromium is the open source browser that Google Chrome is based on.  Chromium isn't the "Linux release of Chrome."

Chromium is the opensource project, chrome is the google build of the chromium sourcecode, which means chrome has google's branding which is proprietary. The chromium name and icon is open.
