[SOLVED] Lost desktop effects with update....
« on: August 22, 2010, 01:28:44 PM »
Anyone else having this issue? I have an Acer Aspire 4730z with an intel GMA 4500m graphics chip, uses the intel i810 or later driver. Was installed recently from the PCLOS 2010.07 iso cd.

It started with a call from a friend of mine running an Acer with similar specs. He said he lost 3d effects after an update, and when you try to turn them on KDE crashes. Everything else works. I told him I had a laptop with the same graphics chipset so I tried a synaptic update and it's doing the same thing. I can post my xorg file if it will help, didn't see any posts regarding this and was wondering if anyone else was having a problem.

Intel GMA users got shafted a little bit with the release of KDE4.5. Try disabling the 'blur' plugin and then enabling compositing (its in 'configure your desktop' -> 'Workspace Appearance and Behavior' -> Desktop Effects -> All Effects)

Awesome, thank you that did it. Just disabled blur, enabled compositing, logged in and out and effects are working again! I will mark as solved.

Hi! I have the same issue with my Dell D620 running an Intel 945GM.

However, I cannot disable the blur plug-in because my "all effects" menu is now empty. Is there a way to do it via Konsole or another menu?

Here's my lspc-v, if it can help:
