Laptop, desktop, battery, storms, break in downloads.

Did you ever make a remaster?

Hi guys, the "shadow" on the desktop is back. The clock is now working OK.

I did a clean install and after the "big update" the same issue was there so it's not something in my old install.

Did you check your LiveCD with "Media Check" option of the LiveCD itself?
This would guarantee your .iso file is not corrupted and there are no read errors on your disk+drive.

No I didn't but the problem only comes after updating. Also I used the disk today to do the neighbours PC (sick of MS *LOL*) and I did not have this problem but I had others come after doing the update. (see my other thread today)

It would seem a few things are broken at the moment.

OK, now this could be a coincidence but I was doing a backup and found 7gig of rubbish in my /home/rod/.tmp folder. Searched the forums to find out how to safely clear it all and found the option to "clean tmp on reboot" So I ticked this and rebooted. It didn't empty my .tmp folder (another problem) BUT now the shadow has gone and has not come back after five reboots?

Coincidence?

I think it doesn't seem to be a coincidence. And can't say how did it work :-\

But that 7 gigs in your tmp directory tells me that probably Synaptic didn't finished its work and leaved undeleted files.

It's back  >:(

I notice that when the shadow is there the icons are all locked to the grid top to bottom and to the left of the screen. You can't change any of the icon arrangement settings. The two must be somehow linked.

This is driving me nuts...............
