What happened to Dobie? [SOLVED]
« on: August 21, 2010, 10:20:28 PM »
Just sync'ed up to the latest updates.

What happened to Obie? He is all white!
No ring or PCLinuxOS signage.

My desktop is a brighter blue theme.

Do we have a regression or the introduction
of a new theme?

Personally, I liked the way things were before
this latest update.

It may be just me...

Cheers,

AussieBear.

All,

Now I understand what happened to Obie.

After the last update a file called "whiteobie.png" appears
to have been installed in my ~home/Documents sub-directory.

Interestingly, when selecting the default splash screen options
(Configure Your Desktop->Workspace Appearance and Behavior->Splash Screen"
shows the expected KDE 4.3 splash screen. Selecting the "Test Theme" button displays
the "White Obie".

Does anyone have an "Old" obie .png file that I can replace/overlay
the White Obie?

At the moment I am using a custom wallpaper graphic to replace White Obie...

Cheers,

AussieBear.

AB, Here you can find all the original graphics: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/texstar/wallpapers/

Also you can open synaptic, press reload and search for dobie if using pass and install

kdm-theme-dobie-classic-1.0-1pclos2010.i586.rpm
ksplash-theme-dobie-classic-1.0-1pclos2010.i586.rpm
wallpaper-theme-dobie-classic-1.0-1pclos2010.i586.rpm

Then you can use "Configure your desktop" in the menu to set wallpaper, kplash and kdm theme to dobie classic.  :D

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

I've been struggling with this on and off for two days. Now I've got the  dark blue splash screens back.

Yeah!!!!

Thanks for the clear instructions.

After my last update I got a black Obie at boot and a white Obie at login. "Smart", I thought. They both look good.

Isn't the bulls name "Dobie" not Obie?  Perhaps it is just a typo.

Note the name in the rpms

ksplash-theme-dobie-classic-1.0-1pclos2010.i586.rpm

This thread is actually marked solved, but for several weeks I thought something was wrong with my system.

In any case, I also cast a HUGE vote for retaining the black bull with the ring, over the white cutout that has appeared on splash and wallpaper.  Why not restore it in the next updates?  It appears there is a clear preference for the black bull and blue ring in the PCLOS community.

Dobie actually is a white bull. He got dipped in oil..(Texas tea, that is) for a while, and Tex just got around to cleaning him up.

I sure wish the theme, splash, and background hadn't been changed.  I really liked the original and it is inconvenient to have to reinstall it.  Just my thoughts.  That doesn't take away from the fact that PCLinuxOS is an exceptional Linux distribution.  It is the only one that runs correctly on a desktop and allows for disabling the blasted touchpad.
