K3b and mkisofs crash
« on: August 19, 2010, 02:02:45 PM »
Hello Everyone: I looked at other k3b problems in a search and didn't really see anything that matched this. I have not yet updated this machine to 4.5 yet, but I don't think that is the issue. Here's the output from the debugging text, after k3b tells me that "mkisofs crashed" I was trying to just backup files before updating to kde 4.5.

I can't help you, but for me K3B crashes when i click on "Configure K3b" in tools. This started happening after the upgrade to KDE 4.5.

Well K3b is still crashing for me, and I was sure everything was fully updated.  But unless I've misread/mis-understood this, synaptic for my repo, and the files on the repo itself  seem out of step. Is this possible? Of course I've hit the reload button in synpatic. Any ideas why his might happen? Using apt at the CLI gives this:

Code: [Select]
# apt-cache policy k3b
k3b:
  Installed: 2.0.80-1pclos2010
  Candidate: 2.0.80-1pclos2010
  Version Table:
 *** 2.0.80-1pclos2010 0
        100 RPM Database
     2.0.1-1pclos2010 0
        500 http://ftp.nluug.nl pclinuxos/2010/kde4 pkglist

And checking through the synaptic history shows nothing for K3b on any update post 19thAugust.

it's possible that this update hasn't reached your repository yet....
=> pass account first gets the updates, after that the local repositories are synced against it, and THEN people without a pass-account can obtain and apply the updates

OK this is not something I've seen before, but as my K3B continued to crash and it didn't appear to have been update as expected, I checked through synpatic again to look at the package properties and it list two possible version.

2.0.80-1pclos2010 ()
2.0.1-1pclos2010 (unknown)

It requires a package > force version to install 2.0.1-1pclos2010.  I've no idea why that should have happened.  This update is being treated as a downgrade that requires intervention. Perhaps if other folk are still getting k3b crashes they might want to check their synaptic entries.

Synaptic only showed K3b 2.0.80-1pclos2010 for me no matter which repo I tried. I uninstalled K3b after which synaptic then showed 2.0.1-1pclos2010 after a reload. Reinstalled K3b which shows as 2.0.1-1. Everything works so far and no crashes.

Go in your system to PC-menu (start menu) >> Software Center >> Dupeclean-gui
to clean up packages that are installed twice (2 different examples e.g.)

Thanks alot.  That fixed k3b for me.  What a weird error.  Why didn't it update automatically?

Glad it worked for you, mine didn't find any duplicate rpm's
Error in k3b for config of program, can't convert tracks or burn cd's after update yesterday 8/29. Haven't updated in a month before this as I have to stay up very late for unlimited sat internet times to fit it all in. Was working wonderfully before synaptic update since installation the day of release, until today. When attempting to configure k3b the program closes instead of opening the config dialog. Attempting to burn cd in mp3 format first track burns then program gives error, cd has one playable track and others show a track number that is unreadable. Attempting to convert tracks also causes error after first track attempt. Tried as root to see if a permission change problem and same results.

I should have mentioned that I was automatically updated to the latest version in the update I did last night that broke my k3b. Currently synaptic shows me using version 2.0.1 and that is the only one available in the repository. I did try to uninstall and re-install this version as well, with same results.

edit:

restarted pc after un-install and re-install of k3b and now my config window does indeed open. Did this accidentally as I booted to other hdd to burn projects with 10.1 edition of same O.S. for earlier this year that I left alone for a backup...cause it worked so well, as I rebooted to current 10.7 updated version and tried again and success on this part. I will now attempt to use the program.

edit2:
all parts of k3b are working wonderfully, seems I just needed to restart/possibly loggin off and back on would have done it? don't know, just happy to be back in business
with my favorite all time O.S.

thanks Tex
