« on: August 19, 2010, 04:31:55 AM »
Hi, I'm a new member, I installed Pclos 2010 on my computer, but I do not hear any sound. My sound card is a Intel 82801H (ICH8 Family). Thanks for the replies.

Hi Bygepp - welcome to the forum.

Can you post back which version of PCLinuxOS you installed? (KDE - Gnome etc) as that will determine where the trouble may lie and where the forum can point you.

One thing you could try is to check that "mute" isn't set - do:

In KDE, go to the KMix panel icon and click on it and make sure it not muted.

In Gnome, go to the GMix panel icon and do the same.

Have you fully updated your system after doing the install? If so, have you rebooted?
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

Sony Vaio SVE1513A4ESI Laptop, Intel Core i5, 2.6GHz, 6GB RAM, 750GB, 15.6" Intel HD Graphics 4000

Thanks, my version of PCLinuxOS is KDE, I did the updates and reboot my computer and the audio isn't muted.

In my laptop, the sound is very low.
So I installed AlsaMixerGUI and the problem solved.

If you open KMix, and do a right-click in the window, you can configure your channels.... there are pretty many of them => activate all of them and check if all of them are not muted, and are full open (my laptop had a very low sound volume, but now, after putting open one of those hidden channels, my sound was working very well......)

Thanks, I solved the problem entering the channel speakers and turning up the volume.  ;)

OK, maybe you can add in the title the word [SOLVED]
(you can do that by going to your first post, and editing it there - many thanks)

And I like it that it works now for you!  :)
