[solved] Windows leaving trail
« on: August 16, 2010, 10:01:33 PM »
Hello everyone.

When I updated to 4.5.0 I saw my windows tear and leave trails when I dragged them.  Also the window decorations look black and pixelated.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Try turning off the 'blur' effect. My kwin crashed with 'blur' was active, so I don't know if that is it, but it's worth a try.

I don't have desktop effects turned on.

I'm using a laptop with an AMD X1250 Radeon Mobility card, if that helps.

Did you upgrade your kernel or video driver?

I did install a newer kernel.  Might as well revert to a newer kernel.

Try a couple of other kernels and see what happens.

Have you ever changed video drivers? (I am not asking you to try at this point.) I'm just looking for background. Usually, what happens is I ask questions, then somebody comes along with answers. ;D ;D

I've tried changing drivers, but the flickering in the title bar (the minimize and maximize buttons), still persists.  I was able to minimize the trailing problem by showing the contents of the window as I move it.

Why don't you turn on desktop effects (kwin) temporarily, just to see what effect it has on the problem?

I have Desktop Effects turned off and have your problem.

Goto:
Configure Your Desktop > Window Behavior
Select Window Behavior on left side
Select Moving tab on right
Check all four Desplay ... boxes
Click Apply

Windows should now move without all the "trailing".

The trailing problem, again, is "fixed".  Strange way of fixing it, though, with displaying the contents of the window as it's moved.
