I'm not trying to tell someone how to spend their money but....why not just buy a PCXLinuxOS system?  Weric at Linpc.us has some amazing deals.:)

+1. I've bought three systems from him, all working flawlessly.
Bare metal                           VBox
AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core    Single core
4GiB RAM                              1GiB RAM
nVidia GeForce FX 5200          64MB video
LXDE 32bit                            KDE 64bit

:D    :D   I'm happy now    :D   :D

Just updated my PCLOS (a remaster I installed when the problem arose) and finally KDE is working fine.

KDE 4.5 or 4.4.5?

Toonfully,

Mark

I have now entered the white bull phase of my existence. All is good with the world. 8)
There is a 5th dimension, beyond that which is known to man.It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity, between science& superstition,& it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call PCLINUXOS!

Updated reinstall broke again with the same symptoms but this time I think I know what happened.

I wanted to make a remaster of the now updated PCLOS and emptied all the folders in /home/crow/  including the images folder, I was using an image inside that folder as my wallpaper.

The remaster didn't run and I saw the same symptoms (desktop didn't work, a bar flashing at the right of the taskbar, etc.) didn't know what to do and rebooted, my desktop was broke again. This time I had a backup DE XLDE, finished the session and changed to LXDE and all worked fine.

I remembered about the image, copied said image to the right folder, went to KDE and....  didn't work.  I won't try anything since I have lots of work, I'm updating my reinstall again and I will be careful in the future.

Another thing, I deleted the wallpaper in LXDE, rebooted and LXDE just showed me a background color, it worked fine. I guess KDE4 is too temperamental.
