Today update broke the install on my work laptop at 9:00 o'clock in the morning, I'm working and posting this from my back up live DVD.
After a large update form the pclosusers repository I rebooted and the graphical desktop was slow to initiate, the widgets (weather and folder view) didn't finish and just see some kind of parenthesis in the middle, there was a little bar flashing at the right of the task bar and that was all. I could move the pointer with the mouse but was of no use because nothing worked if I clicked.
Maybe is an incomplete update but there was no warning (usually there is one) I use to have an alternative desktop for this cases but since I installed just a week ago I had not decided which I want.
Any ideas?
EDIT.
Updated reinstall broke again after being working two days, showed the same symptoms but this time I think I know what happened.
I wanted to make a remaster of the now updated PCLOS and emptied all the folders in /home/crow/ including the images folder, I was using an image inside that folder as my wallpaper.
The remaster didn't run and I saw the same symptoms (desktop didn't work, a bar flashing at the right of the taskbar, etc.) didn't know what to do and rebooted, my desktop was broke again. This time I had a backup DE XLDE, finished the session and changed to LXDE and all worked fine.
I remembered about the image, copied said image to the right folder, went to KDE and.... didn't work. I won't try anything since I have lots of work, I'm updating my reinstall again and I will be careful in the future.
Another thing, I deleted the wallpaper in LXDE, rebooted and LXDE just showed me a background color, it worked fine. I guess KDE4 is too temperamental.
