Repeating configuration of Kate or Kwrite, how?
« on: August 16, 2010, 05:56:26 AM »
I have run up 3 new versions of pclos for tests and are slowly installing some of my basic tools and also working out which those tools are to be.

I have just installed via Synaptic Kate, which I am very happy to see now loads as stand alone package, bravo, only a few MB, remember early on it was included in a big bundle of many many MB.

Once I have configured Kate on one system, I don't relish having to do even another two the same. Same goes for Kwrite. Is there a simple way of copying a ./xx or something from /here to /there     ;D

Thank you: file:///home/gert/.kde4/share/config/katerc this file do seem to have some potential and further next to it I spotted syntax highlighting information which I need to do too.  I may do some experimenting here.

What is an *rc file by the way?  There were a lot ending in rc.

Hehe ......  if I ever knew what RC stood for I have forgotten .......  they are Config files for the various apps, which when in the user space determine how that app works for that user.

rc = regular configuration   ;D ;D (have no clue).   Do you happen to be 'klipper' fan?  On this new test system it is not quite right, the icon has changed and I can't find the pop up configuration that used to allow pop up at cursor neither pop up via short cut and yet in klipperc (handy I spotted this near the katerc too)

[$Version]
update_info=klipper-kconfigxt.upd:KlipperNoSpacesInKeyNames

[General]
MaxClipItems=200
Number of Actions=0
PopupAtMousePosition=true  <-------------------------- wedgeling
TimeoutForActionPopups=2
URLGrabberEnabled=true
Version=v0.9.7

Indicates pop up at cursor but do not give thaction on how, hmmmm, funny feel to it, perhaps it is new version.

thanks, but it is not extensions .rc I see, it is something like klipperrc or katerc this is what intrigued me. First I thought it was the regular .rc (not that I know what that is either, well I do now know more thanks to you)    :)

/home/"yourname"/.kde4/share/config/kateschemarc

has the normal and printing fonts for both kate and kwrite. You may want this file also.

Not being a particular user of Klipper I am unsure which action you are missing.
Yes the icon in the tray has changed to a scissors.
Hovering over it gives me a popup showing its contents.
Clicking on it gives me a better view and options, like editing the contents.
You can add and edit shortcuts from within its settings.

......  but I guess you already knew all that  :)

Thanks you confirmed there is supposed to be a change. I have changed so muc in the last few days I would be hard pushed to remember what was default and what was change. Yes I am rather familiar with it as it rather nifty when you get to know it. Something your answer though made me have a closer look in the handbook.

"To display the clipboard history, click on the Klipper icon in the KDE panel, or press Ctrl+Alt+V. Previous clipboard entries are shown at the top of the popup menu which appears. Selecting one of these copies it to the clipboard, from where it can be pasted into any KDE or X application as usual."

ctl+alt+v this is what I normally reconfigure to alt+a which gives a smoothe workflow for me as I mouse with the right hand, when I go to configure I can't see this keymapping option any longer. Will see how I go.

Ouch, now it is starting to be more complicated, what you are listing are not configuration files I think they are applications but points out that kate is not a single application, well it is but draws in others depending on configuration.  Hummmm not sure now what I want to do.  Think I will defer for a while and think about it.  Thank you though as I had over looked the multifunctioning of Kate.

Anyone who knows klipper would you please post the content of your file kate config file:

/home/gert/.kde4/share/config/katerc

It is getting worth, random action which I can't pin down, so far, I am wondering if I have the wrong config.

what you are listing are not configuration files I think they are applications.....

Actually, they do contain the configs (among other things) for the addins you have for Kate, as most of those folders contain rc files.

Therefore, if you do not save them, then you will have to re-setup your addins all over again.

Sorry false alarm on Kate, it was klipper that was playing up, I fell asleep over the keyboard.

John Bee

My apologies,  walked right into this one. Forgot they were directories   :'(   now I am stopping looking at the 'easy way of tranferring configs' for the time being.
