[SOLVED] Post KDE 4.5: Problems with kwin.

Does anyone else have this problem? When I select enable desktop effects for kwin, it suddenly crashes. Someone mentioned that the release was coming in two parts. Should I wait until the second part is released?

What graphics card/adapter are you using? If you press alt-F2 and type in "glxgears" <enter> is the animation of the gears smooth or choppy?

Do you have an Intel graphics adapter?

If so, try deselecting "Blur" under "All Effects" and then select "Disable Functionality Checks" under "Advanced." Worked for me (and seems to be a known issue w/Intel).

This worked for me, too, but I have AMD processor and ATI graphics, so it is not limited to intel graphics.

Thank you! This worked for me, as well. My "new" laptop (Lenovo G530) uses the GMA 4500M graphics adapter. Imagine my surprise when I updated to KDE 4.5.0 today, and found desktop effects suspended.
