PCman freezes from time to time.

Hahaha. Peace. I just think it is a dead horse (the old version). I spent a fair bit of time on it a while back and posted an update request with lots of information and that post did not survive the move to the new server. 

 

I do understand about the old version. It has its bugs. And I am trying to figure out a way to get the new version out of testing. I just haven't figured out how yet.

Blame the spammers. It was their attack that brought the site down.

In my experience it happens just as much in icon view as detailed view, I just switch between them when I get a freeze, unless I particularly want to see more info about the files of course.

Yes, they are known PCManFM bugs. Still, I try to find a way to fix them. Heck, I don't care who finds a fix. I do care that a fix gets found, though. It is too good a file manager to be plagued by such bugs, IMO.

I'm a user of archlinux and we are also investigating this bug in:

http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/18904

From what I've seen the problem arises after upgrading GTK2 to version 2.20.

Downgrading GTK to version 2.18.9 seems to solve the problem.

I've tried to isolate the problem, and it seems to be in the file
/usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 (of course this could be different in other
distros)

I've upgraded the GTK again to version 2.20 and just replaced that file with
the file from the older 2.18.9 version. After that Thunar works fine again.

Although it's not a proper solution I hope that it could help somebody here and
also help the experts to track down the problem more easily.

BTW, version 0.9.7 of PCmanFM is calling for too many libraries that aren't baked yet.
