I installed PCLOS 2010.07 GNOME yesterday on a laptop and everything worked fine. Today I typed an incorrect password for opening synaptic and from that moment on it no longer opens. It hangs while it is trying to open. I tried the following based on what I read in previous posts on this topic:
1. rebooting: no effect
2. logging on as root: same thing
3. type in terminal as root: "apt-get --reinstall install synaptic" hangs, nothing happens
4. type in terminal as root: "dbus-launch synaptic" synaptic tries to open but hangs again and I see the following comments in the terminal:
(synaptic: 4038): libglade-WARNING **: could not look up stock id 'References'
(synaptic: 4038): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_hide: assertion 'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed
Doe anybody have a suggestion for what I can do other than reinstalling the entire distro?
