I hate to see anyone having unresolvable problems. All I can say is that Skype has been troublesome on every platform, even for some Windows users. Have you tried launching it from the console yet? Just open a console and enter skype to start it. You should see some error messages that you wouldn't see launching it from the GUI.

Will take some time to get used to Linux, it is not windows despite appearance, welcome to the Linux world it can be great fun. $$$ outlay is very minimal the real cost is learning it if you come from another system, a bit like re-inventing the mouse, perhaps I should say re-painting the mouse. Another  payment perhaps could be said is trying to help others starting as you get on that is an even bigger learning experience.

Skype does seem to shake a bit at this stage when you google and perhaps there is hope for you as pclos is shaking a bit for a number of people myself included. I am keen to get skype on Linux but has not got around to check it out yet.

However as you will notice there is a very dynamic Forum and great wealth of information, some of which is just outstanding.  ;D

That's odd!  It just stared giving me the same error this morning.  It doesn't recognize my web cam anymore and it freezes when I choose options > webcam.

Did something change in the repos related to webcams?

EDIT: russ533: Would you mind removing [SOLVED] from the thread please?  I'd like to figure out whats going on because, like you, I still have $10.00 left and I use the web cam feature often.  Thanks!!

Issues remain this end with current version 21081 beta. Also get freezes in Options and my mike doesn't work nor my Creative webcam. The latter because Creative have not bothered with Linux, no driver. I am annoyingly forced to switch to XP every time I want to use Skype.

Edit. I've googled for clues and there are problems galore with other distros as well. The "mike doesn't work" issue appears to be popular!

This might fix the freeze issue.  I installed the static version not dependent on QT libraries and everything works so far.

I've tried both to no avail.
