0day,

You don't say what desktop you are using, but avidemux does a great job of reading both of those file formats. MPlayer should also do quite well.

Oday,
Right click the .flv video file and choose Open with another program, choose smplayer and click the box beside Set selected application as default. Do the same for the mp4 video file.
Now click on a video file of either format, and it should open in smplayer.

SMplayer is a front end to mplayer.

Right-click on the file with a space in its name and choose Rename from the menu. Change the space to an underscore (_) or a dash (-) and click OK.

I am not sure why but for me the SMPlayer under the PCLinuxOS LXDE works fantastic...

Maybe because I have searched the forum and I have learned that I need to edit:

/usr/share/applications/smplayer.desktop this file as root and remove %U in the EXEC line ;).

After that the %20 error for SMPlayer was gone and after clicking on the file the file in PCManFM it actually starts playing ANY video.

Regards.

Andy

There is a second method also but it was killing my old lappy and I couldn't use it.
