Just to try to speak to the side-thread going here:

http://www.icewalkers.com/Linux/Howto/DocBook-OpenJade-SGML-XML-HOWTO/x512.html

should get anyone interested in reading DocBook started.  Look toward the bottom of the page for instructions on how to get a browser to "correctly" render DocBook's XML.

There are other tools available for DocBook, but most of those are Editors, not viewers.

If you're running GNOME, Yelp (the GNOME Help viewer?) should work, too.

Later On,
D

I should have written /etc/kde/kdm/ hope it didn't cause to much trouble.  My typing is atrocious.

Makes no difference (I did go there too), I have only the two files I marked earlier, what I would like to know is, how many files do you have in that directory. ???

Edit:
Perhaps I should ask, do you not have the same content in both directories:

/etc/kde/kdm/
/usr/share/config/kdm/

Your question made me curious. The contents of the /use/share/config/kdm/ and /etc/kde/kdm/ are the same I never checked to see were the syslink in  for kde in/etc/kde redirected me. However, the content of the files differ from my desktop and my little netbook were I was having the problem.

The contents of my desktop are:

file:///usr/share/config/kdm/README
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/backgroundrc
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/sessions

The contents of my netbook after running genkdeconfig --no-old and the problem going away are:

file:///usr/share/config/kdm/sessions
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/backgroundrc
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/backgroundrc.bak
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc.bak
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/README
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/README.BAK
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/README~
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/Xaccess
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/Xreset
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/Xsession
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/Xsetup
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/Xstartup
file:///usr/share/config/kdm/Xwilling

I have forgotten where I got the list of files I mention in reply #14, I do remember I was looking inside some files and started wondering if I should have more files in the directory /usr/share/config/ now I will have to go to my backup system and check what I have there.

Edit:
Have removed som early finding, misreading a directory for a file. on my backup system I have:

file:///media/USB465-5B/usr/share/config/kdm/README
file:///media/USB465-5B/usr/share/config/kdm/backgroundrc
file:///media/USB465-5B/usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc

We are back to you seemed to get one system going by using genkdeconfig --no-old which I have not been game to run just yet, I will keep running with Theme Greet off.   :)
