a64 kernel question. Which do I need to install.
« on: August 13, 2010, 09:54:31 AM »
Hi,
I would like to use the a64 kernel but in synaptic I am confused as to which file to install. My specs are as follows.

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ at 3,014.32 MHz
ATI 4860 graphics card
1TB Hard Drive
6 gigs of ram

There are several choices(6) to make when I search for a64kernel. Which should I install. Sorry, I am a new user and have no clue what to use. :-\

Thanks,

Penny

Great user name, wish I had thought of that one long ago. I am not going to advise you but let us know what you are running right now.

In konsole do:

there is  2.6.33.7a64 bit kernel in the repos .. but it will not get all 6Gb of ram detected.. it supports up to 4Gb of ram.. only the PAE kernel will do that..
