lxde firefox fonts
« on: August 04, 2010, 09:19:02 PM »
Hello!

I am enjoying using pclxde on my old ibm thinkpad a21m (circa ~ 2000 AD).

I notice that on some web sites (discussion boards especially) that I frequent, the font is horrible to read- very jaggedy and rough looking. This is unlike any other distro- when I visit these sites on other distros, the fonts always are very smooth and clear.

Is there a setting I can change in firefox or lxde or fonts I need to download to make things easier on the eyes?

Thanks!

In firefox > Edit > Preferences > Content tab > adjust your fonts here.

You checked the different fonts available? Many web pages use their own fonts and ignore the settings in your browser, but you can alter that on loading of a page. Click View > Zoom to increase or decrease page size; click View > Character encoding to change the rendering. Be careful with this. Default encoding is Unicode (UTF-8). Check the others with caution.

And check the file /home/<you>/.config/lxde/config at line 5 to see which font at what size your system is set to use. Not sure this will help, but some web pages allow the use of your system font.
