Intel 810 and Later Video
« on: August 04, 2010, 09:10:50 PM »
In PCLinuxOS 2009 it was helpful to make changes to the xorg.conf.  http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,57738.0.html  Is it still needed in PCLinuxOS 2010?  What if any thing will help me with a Intel 815 chip set in a Dell Inspiron B130?  I have both KDE 4 and LXDE installed.  The CPU is pin modded to run at 2.4 ghz and surprisingly enough has no problems. Memory has been upgraded to 2 @ 512 MB of DDR2.   The cooling has also been worked on.  A second antenna has been added for the wifi.   CDRW has been replaced with a DVDRW.  LXDE will run HULU in Firefox just fine.  KDE 4 and Firefox has HULU dropping a few frames just so you can barely notice it.  This old lap top project is just about done.  Just need to get a little more speed from the video in KDE 4.  Any Ideas?

No. At least, with my chipset, those settings will kill X. 2010 works well as it is, though it can help to tweak the KDE settings for best results if you're using KDE effects.

I'm not having a responsive video behavior from my notebook running PCLinux 2010 & KDE 4.5 (KWin & Disable desktop effects) as I wish. I'm using "Intel 810 and later" video driver. It's a Toshiba Satellite L305-S5920 (Intel Pentium T3400, Chipset Mobile Intel GL40 Express, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M, 3GB DDR2 800Mhz)
I don't know if it's about configuration or HW limitations. Any clue?

My Fujitsu has intel integrated with 65mb shared  using driver "intel 810 or later"  Compiz & Emerald run smoothly however openGL screensavers and video games like to lock up X forcing a hard shutdown.  Affects any Linux distro I believe.  I tried changing driver in PCC but got forced to command line on reboot, drakx command line tool got me back.  Annoying cause I love using the analog clock widget during screensaver, but alas no :'(
