(SOLVED) Help with Opera, maybe need older version
« on: August 03, 2010, 11:55:42 PM »
Hello everyone. I've been using PCLinuxOS Phoenix xfce for a few days now and must tell you that I think it is spectacular and beautiful. But I have a little problem: My wife really loves the Nimbus gtk2 theme, which is installed and working nicely except for Opera. The scrollbar in Opera doesn't render correctly. I think the easiest solution would be to install an older version of Opera. Could you please tell me the proper command to accomplish this. I can download an old version rpm from the Opera website. Thanks.

Welcome to Forum, you will find a lot of information and willing helpers, but you have no doubt already figured that.   ;D ;D

I love Opera and am interested to know if you can describe the render problem in more detail?  Possible to take snapshot and attach?

I no longer have the new version Opera installed, so no screenshot. The problem only happens with the Nimbus gtk2 theme which has a highly styled scrollbar that tapers and curves at the ends. The new Opera displays a more typical scroll bar, unstyled but the correct color. But when I mouse-over the scrollbar, instead of highlighting... it just sort of disappears into a blob of speckled colors and random patches of yuck. The bar will still function, but is not distinguishable as a bar with any shape or size except for the border of the track surrounding it. This has happened a few times before during the past three years with some older versions of Opera, and maybe even once or twice with Firefox or Seamonkey. Usually the problem was fixed in the subsequent release. It will probably be fixed again, I hope.

Just to clarify: I installed Opera version 10.11 as per Texstar's post and it is working fine, although the scrollbar still doesn't have the Nimbus style. Seems odd that some versions will adopt the Nimbus style and other versions won't.

And thanks for the warm welcome to the forums, wedgeling. I'm just amazed at how perfectly PCLinuxOS is working, especially when compared to other popular Linux distro's I've installed previously. So happy to be here.

Can be a bit scary to join any forum but the tone here appealed to me long time ago and I was made welcome, now I know a bit more I try to pay back.   ;D ;D

I believe that the Opera 10.70 still was a bit in beta but I am happy it has made it to repo so we can play with it, therfore oddities will be around. So far I seem to be the only one that has had cpu loading problems with it. Opera has this right clik and copy the url of the page the cursor sits in, essential for me now.  Enjoy
