Dell Latitude C610, 1.2Ghz, 512mb PCLinuxOS 2009
I tried to get an additional monitor to display from my laptop. It would only display in 480 x 640 mode for some reason and I finally gave up trying to get it to use 1024 x 768. Ever since, my background is a plain blue and will not change. When I enter "configure desktop", I can see it is set correctly - I have tried everything I can think of to no avail. Please offer some advice if you can. Desktop snapshot attached.

Thank you,
Jaybee

Hi Jaybee

Have you tried right clicking the desktop and selecting "Folder View Activity Settings" as you can change your wallpaper from that area.

If don't want a wallpaper image, and when you have "Folder View Activity Settings"  opened - it should default to the Wallpaper section - now look at the top where it says "type"  From that drop-down box you can change it various other types of desktop. IF you do want just a colour, select the "Color" option from the same drop-down box and you can then change it to a colour(s) to suit.

I don't see that option - please see new attachment.

I'd consider upgrading to PSLinuxOS 2010.07 (with KDE4). Most people have forgotten how to fix things in KDE3.

Aaaah!  your on 2009 version - my fault - I read the post too quickly and only took in the problem.

Do you have a choice whether you can (or able) to use 2010.7 as it's much more coherent since the early days of KDE4

jaybee - what happens when you select the Folder icon at the end of Picture line where it says "Created by PCLinuxOS Beautif....

Is it locked? Coz as you probably know you should be able to browse your folders and add pics etc.....

Thanks guys. I do have 2010 on cd, but it runs a bit slow on my old c610 w/512mb ram. That's the same reason I switched from my old favorite - SimplyMepis - it got bigger and slower on my old systems. Also, I have gone into the background folder and selected several different images - they just don't show up on the desktop. I have also changed themes. The theme changes but still no background image. If I go into "safe mode", I get the background. If I log in as root, I can change the background image. Ughhhh. Oh, I also just discovered that I can change the background image on Desktop 2......just not on 1.
Is there a file I can modify or something?

Maybe remove the configuration of kdesktop. Been a long time but iirc the settings should be here: ~/.kde/share/config/kdesktoprc

Then restart kdesktop (kill and restart the kdesktop process or log out and back in)

Sorry for no reply - I've been away. Anyway, you nailed it. I renamed that file and rebooted. Then I selected a photo a voila!
Thank you so much. I appreciate your assistance.
