Now you tell me  ;D but just to be sure I had better do a reboot. Since I deleted the file I have reconstructed it from what is in topic and I thought I might just lift one or two actions from kde 3.

My brain is in overdrive trying to figure why I don't have skel.  If my system was not running like a house on fire I would start thinking about something drastic but really most problems I am having are just secondaries, I will not live with them in the long run but for now just a great fun time wasting. Ok going down for 3minutes

Ok, you are right, pc-restart and klipperrc rebuilt but only to measly amount above, but I can now start stuffing the file  ;D

Sorry, about that.
I've gotten used to saying log out because so many have an aversion to rebooting. As the thread progressed I forgot to mention it when I realized I didn't get it back 'till an actual reboot.

;D ;D I should think for myself too sometimes, you have done a good job questioning my findings.

Have not got time for backing up, did that a week ago that will have to do.

I have just rechecked about skel, thorughly and I do have the skel, in my hurry I think I cut the snippet too short from locate, now above I get the listings.

Quote
[root@localhost gert]# locate klipper
/etc/skel/.kde4/share/config/klipperrc
/home/gert/.kde4/share/apps/klipper
/home/gert/.kde4/share/apps/klipper/history2.lst
/home/gert/.kde4/share/config/klipperrc
/home/gert/Documents/100728-klipper_investigation.glk
/home/joe/.kde4/share/apps/klipper
/home/joe/.kde4/share/apps/klipper/history2.lst
/home/joe/.kde4/share/config/klipperrc
/home/test/.kde4/share/config/klipperrc
/home/test1/.kde4/share/config/klipperrc
/root/.kde4/share/apps/klipper
/root/.kde4/share/apps/klipper/history2.lst
/root/.kde4/share/config/klipperrc
/usr/bin/klipper

Note to myself:  this is just a snippet from results in konsole: locate klipper

There is a /etc/skel/.kde4/share/config/klipperrc and the content as you listed above after your restart.

Now for some stuffing!!

Edit: the use of the modified file from KDE 3.5.x failed, I think the syntax did not match. Have not found any error messages, but system still the same.

OK: I think this is what you are looking for. It appears that when klipper was ported to 4.5 they hard coded the default actions, hence the blank actions screen. What I did was re-enter my custom actions and klipper picks up on them and it functions just like it did before.

Well done, you are correct.  ;D  The programming of the actions are only for techie types and I guess somebody was interested enough to take on the Automatic or context sensitive programming. The idea being that depending on what you have selected, this selection is analysed and in the pop up window you are offered actions that can deal with this particular situation.

I only found out more by accident after my last post, just before leaving forum for the night. I decided to do one last google and first hit I looked at was this:

http://dimsuz.wordpress.com/2009/04/01/klipper-updates/

Perhaps does not look much to most people but a closer look tells quite a story, at least when I saw this things started to fall into place. For example if you look at my second picture, the pop up actions which shows a couple of question marks, I thought that was reflecting my programming attempt, but they had already been wiped out, I should have thought harder at this stage.  I read the manual instead but did not find anything else that confirmation that it worked the same as in kde 3.5.x.

Instead of hand program my old actions into the KDE 4.4.5 I opted for installing a modified version of the KDE 3.5.x klipperrc, the file that does hold the programming but I failed.

Could you post your file so I can have alook at your syntax and try to crrect my own to suit?      ;D
/home/gert/.kde4/share/config/klipperrc

By any chance have you found out how to turn off the Automatic part, leaving only your own Actions? I can see some benefit in that.
