Getopenoffice issue [Workaround]
« on: July 27, 2010, 08:53:31 PM »
I waited a bit to update openoffice using getopenoffice.... my work machine didn't have an issue. I'm failing miserably with my home machine. I ran getopenoffice from the cli and the attached is what I get. When I click on the OK button the command line just goes blank... the prompt doesn't come back.

What do I need to do to fix this one?

I would like to add my problem to it also-- when I run it I also get this response:
OpenOffice could not be installed due to either
- Internet connection failure or interupt, or
- manual interupt of the OpenOffice installation.
Please try running GetOpenOffice again a little later.

Exiting...
I have tried all day to install it and continue to get same response.
Then I find it removed my openoffice so now I have none on the system.

How to fix this?

This is on a fully updated KDE- updated from pass up to todays date.

Run bleachbit and bleachbit-root to do a cleanup. Then use GOO to uninstall open office. Reboot. Run Goo again. Be sure it has been updated to the latest version or it will fail.

Did all that and still a no go. Same error message.
In the repository do I need something like before that had an Open Office repository?

No, you do not need to set up a repository. That is taken care of by getopenoffice.

Do you have version 1.8 of getopenoffice installed? Have you read this thread? -->

In particular, read pinoc's latest post

I have the latest GetOpenOffice 1.8 (from PASS) and I continue to get the same message. I have run the Bleachbit and rebooted and reloaded synaptic. Checked for broken packages (none) and my kde install is updated as of today from PASS. The previous version of GetOpenOffice had worked but this one will not connect. I am now without any office software as it removed previous version. Is it possible to install it from synaptic, if I can not get GetOpenOffice 1.8 to work?

I was afraid this was going to happen... I think I may just wait a bit....

You aren't using the Thailand mirror, are you?

Try changing to OpenDNS. >> Open PCLinuxOS Control Center > Configure Your Computer > Network and Internet > Network Center > open your network connection and click the button 'Configure' > Uncheck 'Get DNS servers from DHCP' > In the box for DNS Server 1 enter: 208.67.222.222 > In the box for DNS Server 2 enter: 208.67.220.220 > click on the OK button at the bottom right to close the dialog window. >
In the Network Center window click on 'Disconnect', wait for it to finish, then click on 'Connect'.
Your Internet connection is now configured to use OpenDNS. Close all open PCC-windows and try GOO again.

How would I find out? I presume, since I am in the US that I am not, but I'd like to confirm.

Probably you're not. Check in Synaptic > Settings > Repositories.

If that is the answer I know without looking that I am using the PASS repository

I have a PASS account, but GetOpenOffice appears to use the freebsd site-- and I can not even get it to connect to the freebsd.org site thru synaptic-- goes to 3 and stalls. How can you change what site GetOpenOffice uses? I also am in the USA.

Its very weird.

I have upgraded my system last night (actually 3 laptops and a desktop) and in all 4 cases Synaptic installed GetOpenOffice script.

I fired it up on all 4 machines and on all 4 machines I am enjoying beautiful and very well working OpenOffice 3.2.1 (without a tiniest glitch)...

Well done to all who have been working on this project.

I am not sure what goes wrong on Your machines dudes but 2010 KDE4 MiniMe Fully Upgraded works like a charm with GetOpenOffice.

And it had always worked on mine before until this 1,8 version. Now it took off prior open office suite and will not load the new version, so I am without any office software, So need a solution or a work around. I have completely uninstalled GOO and reinstalled -- rebooted and still no go- Synaptic is working fine. Always with this response

OpenOffice could not be installed due to either
- Internet connection failure or interupt, or
- manual interupt of the OpenOffice installation.
Please try running GetOpenOffice again a little later.

Exiting...

My internet is fine, I did not manually interrupt it and I have been trying 2 days now.  ???

Could it be in the 'cat' error in my original post?

On another note--- I always thought this was a script, but when I check the properties it looks more like an executable....
